Is homeschooling with Heart of Dakota worth it?
By now, many of us are well into our school year. As we move from the excitement of a new school year to the more predictable pattern of the mid-school year, we may be less inspired than we first were. In fact, in the busyness of life, we may even begin to question if homeschooling is worth it.
When we look at the big decisions in life, we have to weigh the worth of what we do. To do this, we often look at the time things take and the money they cost. Whether you homeschool or not, children will always take parents’ time and money. In homeschooling, parents commit to spending more time with their children. This impacts virtually every facet of life!
Likewise, parents commit to spending more money on their children. Things that a public school would provide for free must be purchased. Curriculum materials, art supplies, computers, science resources… all come with a price. Sports groups, music lessons, co-ops, gym memberships, field trips… all take a toll on the pocketbook.
So, is homeschooling worth it? Is Heart of Dakota worth it? Perhaps the answer to this question goes deeper than the usual measures of worthiness. Perhaps the measures of minutes and hours, of dollars and cents, do not reveal the true value of a homeschool education with Heart of Dakota. As a homeschool mom who has homeschooled for many years, three things of intrinsic value come to mind.
#1: The Value of a Christ-Centered EducationÂ
What value does a Christ-centered education hold for you? Do you value your children receiving a Christian education? If you do, it will come at a price. Check out the cost of private Christian schools, and you will see the financial commitment of a Christian education.
That is exactly what my husband and I did before beginning homeschooling. To afford a private Christian education, both of us would have had to work full-time jobs. Our long work hours would have caused us to need before and after school daycare. The time we would have had with our children each day would have been reduced to a few hours at night and weekends at best.
Heart of Dakota gives children the value of a Christ-Centered education in their own home with their own parents as teachers. What price would you pay for your children to truly know the Lord? To walk and talk with Him each day? To see that God’s Word is a necessary Book in their education?
When I go to heaven to be with the Lord, I pray all my children will join me there someday, at the perfect time of His choosing. I want a forever-lifetime with my children. The value I place on a Christ-centered education is priceless. For this reason, homeschooling with Heart of Dakota is worth it!
#2: The Value of Customizing Your Children’s Education
What value does customizing your children’s education hold for you? Do you value your children receiving a customized education? Two children in one family pair beautifully together combined in one guide, while another child in that same family functions better in a separate guide.
Combined children use one guide for their main subjects, but use different levels of reading, math, grammar, and spelling. Extensions can be added to further extend older children’s history and science.
One year it works well to combine children, but the next year, you’d rather separate them. Target age ranges help you keep children learning what they need to, while still offering the ability to customize the guides you use accordingly.
Each year, you can customize your children’s education based on each of their individual needs, your family’s collective needs, and your budget. Pacing can be slowed down or sped up to further customize learning. The avid reader can read more books more quickly, while the reluctant reader can read fewer books more slowly. Each can read the right level of books to move them forward in their learning. The same goes for levels and pacing of math, grammar, writing, spelling, and even history and science.
No matter the age or grade level of your children, Heart of Dakota gives you the opportunity to customize their education. Their homeschool plans fit them just right, and that brings peace, joy, and progress to homeschooling. The value I place on customizing my children’s education is immeasurable. For this reason, homeschooling with Heart of Dakota is worth it!
#3: The Value of Living BooksÂ
What value does providing a living books’ education hold for you? Do you value your children reading excellent, timeless books that make history positively leap off the page? Books that make scientists and their breakthroughs, inventors and their inventions, come to life?
Living books breathe life into learning. They paint a fuller picture and stir the soul. While dry books and textbooks are utterly forgettable, living books are entirely memorable. The connections children make with living books are lasting. Heart of Dakota chooses only the best for your children, and that includes the best of the best living books.
Many of my most precious memories of homeschooling my children revolve around books. Books they’ve delightedly narrated to me upon… books we’ve cuddled up and read on the couch together… books we’ve discussed, connected Scripture to, created projects in response to… and books that line their own beloved bookshelves as treasured old friends long after the homeschooling is all done. The value of living books in my children’s education is limitless. For this reason, homeschooling with Heart of Dakota is worth it!
The Value of a Heart of Dakota Education
So, is homeschooling worth it? Is Heart of Dakota worth it? The value of a Christ-centered, customized, living books’ education for my children is 100% worth it. It is worth the time when I don’t think I have time; it is worth the money when I don’t think I have the money.
It is an incredible blessing to homeschool my children, and one that I pray gets passed down from generation to generation. The memories made, the time spent together, the faith shared, the drawing together of our family with an unbreakable bond built upon a firm foundation of faith that is unshakable… completely worth it.
As I near the end of my 20+ years of homeschooling journey, my heart is full. If I could do it all over again, I would. In fact, many days I wish I could. It has been an honor to homeschool my children. May my story be your story, and may you always know without a shadow of a doubt – homeschooling – especially with Heart of Dakota – is worth it.
In Christ,
Julie
