The Building Securely: English 7 Pupil Text includes an advanced grammar course with 125 lessons divided into 11 chapters. You’ll find this comprehensive, God-honoring text easy-to-use as well as thorough. It teaches upper-level grammar constructs, mechanics, and writing. The lessons include both oral and written work. All of the parts of speech are covered, including prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. The course builds review into it in a sequential manner.
Chapters 1-2 focus on sentence parts and sentence construction. Object complements and subjective complements are introduced. Chapters 3-9 focus on the parts of speech. Verbals, progressive and emphatic forms of verbs, intransitive verbs, restrictive clauses, conjunctive adverbs are introduced.
Ample sentence diagramming practice is included. Chapter 10 teaches concepts of capitalization and punctuation including italics, single quotation marks, and ellipsis points. Chapter 11 deals with using numerous kinds of reference books, studying words, and studying word families.
Some of the new composition skills taught are guidelines for proofreading, story development, and note-taking. Paragraph construction, outlining, oral reports, descriptive writing, character sketches, book reviews, conflict and style, and poetic devices are taught at deeper levels.
Since this is an advanced text, English 7 is scheduled as part of high school language arts in World Geography and World History. It is divided over two years in those guides.
