Following the Plan: English 5 Pupil Text
The Following the Plan: English 5 Pupil Text clearly teaches advanced grammar and writing concepts with 119 lessons divided into 10 chapters. This easy-to-use, comprehensive, God-honoring text teaches key concepts of grammar, mechanics, and writing. The lessons include both oral and written work, and cover all of the basic parts of speech.
The course includes continual review to cement concepts. Parents should make sure to do at least half of each lesson with the students orally, so the amount of writing does not become too much for the students.
Chapters 1-2 focus on understanding sentence types and structure. Chapters 3-7 and Chapter 9 focus on the eight parts of speech. Chapter 8 teaches punctuation rules. Chapter 10 has lessons on capitalization, the dictionary, synonyms, antonyms, Bible reference books, hyphens, and colons.
Interspersed throughout the book are 28 composition lessons. The writing emphasis is on organization and clear writing. Lessons on diagramming, writing different types of paragraphs, taking notes, outlining, report writing, relaying personal experiences, writing book reports, giving directions, letter writing, and exploring poetic devices are included.
English 5 is one option for English scheduled in Creation to Christ and Resurrection to Reformation. It is divided over two years in those guides. English 5 is also scheduled as a one-year option in Revival to Revolution.
Note: The Teacher’s Manual is necessary at this level as an answer key and for additional help with the lessons.
