How often is R&S scheduled in older guides? Carrie- Future?

We're just doing Bigger and using book 2. I have my 4th grader doing several lessons a day. She'll start book 3 soon. I'm wondering how often R&S is scheduled in the older programs? I believe R&S is only being scheduled up to book 6, but the book that's the equivalent of grade 8. So, I'm assuming it slows down somewhere and is no longer 1 book a year. I see in both CTC and RTR, the highest book offered is book 5. I'm wondering cause I'm trying to figure out how long to try to catch DD up. Should I keep doing several lessons a day in book 3 and book 4 and try to get her to start book 5 for the fall or when will she be caught up because I see it may not be necessary for her to be finished book 5 and ready to start book 6 for 6th grade. Carrie how often will R&S be scheduled in the older guides? Is it book 5 for 5th and 6th grade and book 6 for 7th and 8th grade?

If I remember correctly, you get to CTC using either book 4 or book 5 depending upon which level you completed in PHFHG. So, you complete half of either one of those in CTC and the other half in RTR. Then you start back to one a year I THINK.

Yeah, I think this is right (but I'm also not 100% certain, lol :)). R&S is scheduled half-pace in CTC and RTR. Then it's full-speed in the last two guides. I'm pretty sure the goal is for kids to have completed R&S Level 6 by the end of 8th grade. :)

So is it book 6 for the last guide, book 5 for the 2nd last, book 4 for CTC and RTR? I'm ordering book 3 right now for my DD who's 4th grade in Bigger. Can we just slow down and aim to finish book 3 in time to start CTC with book 4 then?

It is book 4 or 5 with CTC and RTR. We are doing half of 5 this year and the last half next year with RTR. I think with Rev to Rev then we will do 6 full speed as scheduled in the guide. Not sure then how that works for the last guide.

Mumkins,

CTC and RTR schedule Rod and Staff English 4 and 5, with the first half of each one scheduled in CTC and the second half of each one scheduled in RTR. So, it is assumed you are choosing either 4 or 5 to do over the course of 2 years. :D

Rev. to Rev. will schedule Rod and Staff English 5 (all of it at pretty much the pace of a lesson per day, 4 days a week) and the first half of English 6 (stretching each lesson out over 2 days, so grammar is done 4 days a week). We are assuming in Rev. to Rev. that you are choosing either all of English 5 or the first half of English 6. :D

Then, in the Modern Times guide, you will have the option of doing all of English 6 (pretty much at the pace of a lesson a day four days a week) or the last half of English 6 (if you did the first half in Rev. to Rev.). In this way all students using the Modern Times guide will have finished English 6 prior to heading into the geography guide. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Excellent Carrie, thank you. That's exactly what I needed to know to plan.

ETA-

Oh, I just looked further. I forgot that DD is missing the last two guides as she'll be in 8th grade for Rev. to Rev.

Does this look better for her:

Preparing-5th- book 4
CTC-6th-half of book 5
RTR- 7th- half of book 5
Rev. to Rev.-8th- book 6

Or

Preparing-5th-half of book 4 and half book 5
CTC-6th-half of book 5
RTR- 7th- half of book 6
Rev. to Rev.-8th- half of book 6

I realize I'd pretty much have to do my own schedule on the last one.

I'm looking to not overwhelm her, but have her be able to finish at the end of 8th with finishing book 6. Open to another schedule anyone can think of.

If Modern Times has options for 9th grade, or I beefed it up for 9th grade, I guess I'd just use book 7 and I believe it was said to be high school worthy?

Mumkins,

I'd lean toward your first schedule, as it would allow you to follow each guide's pacing of the grammar books up until your daughter's 8th grade year. This would keep your grammar more in balance with the way we planned it for that particular aged child, along with the heavier writing emphasis in those guides where grammar is half-speed. The Rev. to Rev. guide and The Modern Times guides will both go to having grammar scheduled daily (4 times a week), so it would be easier at that time to do a level more quickly since we're already assuming you're doing grammar daily in our schedule. :D

Rod and Staff English 7 is credit worthy as part of your English credit for high school, as one English credit is composed of a combination of the following: literature study (with some vocab.), composition, grammar, and sometimes dictation/spelling. So, we'd recommend doing Rod and Staff English 7 over two years as a freshman and sophomore, with Rod and Staff 8 done over two years as a junior and senior. :D We would also recommend continuing with studied dictation until your child has completed Level 8 of the dictation passages (for however many years that takes). Our oldest son is a very good speller and writer and is still doing dictation 3 times weekly in high school.

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you so much Carrie. I'm relieved to know exactly how to approach this now, thank you.
