TICONGEROGA Pencils!!

Post by mrsrandolph » Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:34 pm

Is it JUST me or are Ticonderoga Pencils not TOTALLY worth the extra money?? :?:

I picked up a pencil at someone's house the other day, and actually said, "EWW! What kind of pencil is this?" I am such a snob!

If you have never used Ticonderogas, Try some! You will never go back to the cheapies :D

OK...this was a light post

:D I so agree. I bought a bunch of the triangular shaped ones from Rainbow when I place my order this summer.I got so tired of trying to sharpen the cheap ones in our sharpener, especially after one that had a "wrapping" that was too thick broke my favorite eletric sharpener ever! I felt a little over the top buying so many at once but I knew I would not regret it when I had enough to last all year. Love them!!!

I too am a Ticongeroga fan! I've bought many of the other cheaper pencils and the leads keep falling out when sharpening them. I grab a Ticongeroga every time though I don't know how to pronounce it and can't remember how to spell it! :D

Thanks for the pronunciation guide and the spelling! Is it an Indian (Native American) name? Is it a place?

We love them too! Isn't it funny the little things that make homeschooling life much more pleasant?? I not only love they way they sharpen and write, my favorite part is the ERASERS! I can't stand pencils that smear or crumble instead of erasing! I never did a mathematical calculation, but I'm pretty sure we were losing money with the number of pencils we threw away and the number of pencil sharpeners we burned up before switching to Ticonderoga.

I'm not positive this is where the name came from, but I do remember one of my sons being really excited when we studied this in U.S. History and he connected the name of the pencils with the name of the fort! http://www.fort-ticonderoga.org/

It is a brand of pencil. You can get them at Wal Mart, Target, and many other outlets. They are GREAT! :D

Definitely. Though with the way my little one bites the erasers off, I don't let the kids have them unless I'm getting them right back.

I confess, I've never paid attention to pencil brands before.... but my two oldest sons were arguing over a pencil today and you know what is was, don't you? A Ticonderoga..... After this thread I didn't know whether to punish them for fighting or congratulate them on their excellent taste!
