8smith,

We have the Titanium iPoint by Westcott (electric) pencil sharpener and it works great. We have had it almost two years and it still works like new. I only have girls - so that may make a difference.

BTDT with all the broken sharpeners. I finally bought a vintage one off of ebay. It's a Dixon and it's built to last. :) It's not electric just the good old fashioned sturdy crank kind.

I would love to have one of the old fashioned kinds, but I don't know where I'd put it?

We have and electric one that was 15 dollars at Target... I don't allow them to use it except sometimes I let Jayden use it when no sisters are around. It is ok... not the best in the world, but it works....

This is a fun thread! I've given up on the electric ones. I like letting the kids have their own small hand-held one which they keep in their pencil case. The best one I have found is the Combi 2-in-1. I've found it at rainbowresource.com ($3.25) and timberdoodle.com ($3.75)

I saw a nice vintage one at a flea market the other day. So if you don't like ebay you could try flea markets. I got a giggle thinking about all the HOD moms who might be unknowingly betting against each other on ebay over pencil sharpeners this week.

I had been looking for a good one too.

I found an X-Acto crank kind that suctions to the table and it works great! I think it was $10

there is one that Discount School supply sells and Staples sells the same one. It has gotten pretty good reviews. Says steel bottom i believe. We are going to try it. i had Staples Rewards to use by end of month. it is Boston X-acto KS mechanical .....$14 something at Discount and $16 something at Staples but with free ship to store. I think it is the same as the one just mentioned in the last post but you mount it instead of suction with he screws the give you. I remember we had one mounted out in the garage when i was growing up. Ahhh the memories...

This is the same one we have and I love it! I have two boys who love to sharpen pencils and so far it still works like new. My only complaint is that it won't stay suctioned to the table very long, but it's no big deal to me.

I don't know if this would help, but have you considered the yellow mechanical #2 pencils that twist at the bottom? They don't click when you erase, which is nice. Using these helps eliminate the need for the sharpener, except for colored pencils, etc.
