My shopping cart is full and I have ?'s

Hi,

I'm ready to go purchase my HOD order, but I have a couple of items pulling at me that I'm not sure which way to go!

!.) I'm looking at 5/6 girl option books, but I don't see level 5/6 in the DITHOR TM or a student book. I'm sure I'm missing something here! I'm thinking levels 4/5 and 6/7/8 too! The books just seem so full and wholesome I can't decide, I know she would enjoy all of them as she loves to read! They are all in my cart too!!

2.) Also, coming from a Virtual School, I'm not sure how much grammer she's had exactly. She'll be in 6th grade in the fall! Do I get level 4 or 5 R & S! I have 5 in the cart!
(she's 11 and a strong reader, pretty strong creative writer too)

Lastly, she would be considered pre-algebra 1st semester if she were to be the VS next fall, but when we did the Singapore math she fell into the 5B - 6 A option!
3.) Do I just get her 5A - 5B or bump up to 6A - 6B! ugh!! so much to think about, my mind is spinning!

Thanks for any help!!! S

I'll be absolutely no help, sorry. Just wanted to welcome you to the board and commiserate on having a full shopping cart. I would put stuff in, take it out, put it back, back and forth. I wanted everything and couldn't make any decisions. These ladies are great in guiding you.

Sorry I can't be of help with all your questions, but I do know that with Singapore you need to go with where she places on Singapore's placement test. I'm not sure if there's one on HOD's website, but I know there's one on Singapore's website. With R&S, I think most people have their dc in two levels below their grade many times, since it is so advanced. I haven't used it yet but am planning to. Look at some R&S samples online. If there's samples on HOD, look there, if not then I know there are samples online elsewhere.

I haven't used DITHOR yet, so I'm of no help with the bookpacks, sorry!

Hi Tacey! It is very fun to be to the ordering phase of things. :D :D :D I'll do my best to help you out here with the answers to your questions...
1. You can use the DITHOR 5/6 Book Set with either the 4/5 OR the 6/7/8 part of the DITHOR Teacher's Guide, and with either the 4/5 Student Book OR the 6/7/8 Student Book. If it were my child's first trip through DITHOR, I'd lean toward using the 4/5 Level of plans and the 4/5 Level of Student Book. You really don't need to make the decision yet which part of the DITHOR Teacher's Guide plans you will use, because all of the levels are in the Teacher's Guide anyway. But for the Student Book, you could do either.

2. For grammar, you could either do R & S English 4 daily, or R & S English 5 half-speed 2 days a week, finishing it the next year. If she hasn't had very much grammar you may want to do R & S English 4. If she's quite strong in LA, she would do fine with 5. :D

3. For math, just do 5B the first semester, and 6A the second semester. One of my sons always does a "B'" first, and then finishes with an "A". Works perfectly for him. :D

I think you are on the precipice of a fantastic year! HTH! :)
In Christ,
Julie
