Marsha,

Would you mind sharing more? Do your older dc read the extension packs for history? And what do they read independently? I'm looking at Preparing for next year.

Thank you,

Here is how we are using Preparing.
I have an 8th, 5th, 4th, and 3rd grader together.
Everyone has their own LA and Math and they all do copywork, dication, and narration.

We do the poetry, bible, history, projects, and science together.
My 8th grader reads the extension books and I have added Makers of History books9 2 for each time period and for science she does Life Science with Real Books 4 days a week and on day for she is reading one chapter from Exploring the world of Chemistry.

My 5th and 4th grader reads the older and newly independent reader books.
They do it as written.

My first grader reads the newly independent reader books. She cannot do the drawing or much of the copywork, so I find coloring sheets of everything they are drawing and she colors it.
Plus, I use a worksheet generator online to make worksheets for copywork.

I think it sounds wonderful. Sometimes I wish I had combined mine instead of separating. Keep up the great work.

This is interesting to hear! I'm slightly toying with the idea of combining all in Preparing next year, though I like the individualized levels in many ways. Mine would be 2nd, 4th, 5th. Do you plan on putting your to-be-2nd grader in CTC next year? It's always neat to hear how many different ways HOD can work well for different families!

My plan next year is to use one program and add books for everyone.
I will have a 9th, 6th, 5th, 2nd, and K next along with 2 little ones(2 years) and (almost 3 months).

I think I may add picture books and SOTW next year, but I haven's decided yet.
I will start scheduling when I get order the guide.

I like everyone doing the same guide. It may not work for everyone though.

Marsha,

I'm so glad that you popped in to share how Preparing Hearts is going for your family. I love seeing how each family is making HOD work within their family's unique situation.

It can take some pondering to find the right fit, but the structured flexibility of the HOD guides make it possible for them to be used in a myriad of ways!

I'm thrilled you're finding Preparing to be a good fit! We pray you will enjoy your year as much as we did last year! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
