Happy Handwriting

Post by ncmomof5 » Fri Sep 25, 2009 10:53 am

I was just wondering if anyone has every used this. Everyone speaks so highly of Cheerful Cursive, and so I was surprised when I went on their website to see that they had a program for learning to print. I would have thought Carrie would've included that with LHFHG. Is it not a good program? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm not sure about Happy Handwriting, but I will say that I think other handwriting programs transition well into Cheerful Cursive. We used A Reason for Handwriting and had no trouble going into Cheerful Cursive after it. Carrie tries to research the best choices on a year by year basis, and tries not to get stuck with the mindset of using one thing just because it was used once. I know when she researched Cheerful Cursive, she thought it was a diamond in the rough - and I agree! :D She always has a suggestion to use whatever handwriting program you most desire though, so if Happy Handwriting is a hit with you, by all means, use that! :D

Thanks Marsha and Julie. I haven't really gotten to look at Happy Handwriting. I just saw that it was written by the same people who made Cheerful Cursive, so I thought it might be a good choice for my 5 year old. I normally start with cursive, but he seems to be doing better with print first.

Thanks, Marsha. It looks really neat. I might have to order that once my 5 yo ds is done with his Rod and Staff books.

We did take a look at Happy Handwriting when we originally chose a manscript program and preferred the strategy of copying Bible verses each week that was used in A Reason for Handwriting. Since both programs teach a similar style of writing the manuscript letters, we chose the more Bible-based program for use within our guides instead.

We, personally, have loved having the kiddos give away their Bible verse each week on decorated paper as scheduled in A Reason for Writing. :D However, the beauty of HOD is that you can use any handwriting program that you prefer without affecting the flow of the guide. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks for answering that Carrie. That makes total sense. I haven't looked at manuscript handwriting curriculums in a long time, so I have no idea what's in the many that are out there. Thanks for sharing your insight.
