Floating raisins in unit 17

Post by Melanie » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:33 pm

OK...I admit it, I almost skipped this science experiment. Don't skip it guys! My kids LOVED this. You have to wait for a few minutes before they start to go up and down (we talked about how Jesus was raised, but didn't come back down), but after a few hours, they stay up and do not come down...perfect example! :D

Not quite there yet but now I am looking forward to floating raisins! Very cool! 8) I sometimes I think I am going to skip things too but I am always glad I don't!

Ooo, this sounds like fun. Although we are past LHFHG I bet the girls would like to do this.

We may give it a try this afternoon!

Do you float them in water, or something carbonated? I seem to remember this somewhere in the cobwebs of my brain :P

You fill a glass with about 8-10 oz of water, then add 2 tsp. of baking soda and 2 tsp of vinager...mix well and then just let them sit for 3-4 min. (hard to wait) and then they will start going up and down. It's very cool and they keep doing it for hours. Eventually, they all float to the top and stay. My kids absolutely loved this! :D Then we took them out and felt them and...yes...squished them  They just wanted to check out the insides....kids!

Hmmm, I must have skipped that one, because I don't remember it, I can't wait till my youngest does LHFHG so we can do that stuff all over again! :D
