Preparing or Creation to Christ

Hello everyone,

God is bringing me through a very difficult season and I am excited to begin using Heart of Dakota again with my daughter. I was going to place her in Preparing and then after looking through the site, realized that if I do this, she would be a year behind to go through all of the guides before graduation. I was struggling with this with my son. I can't seem to wrap my brain around getting done in time and taking our time, which is the benefit of homeschooling. There is still a possibility of my children moving in with their dad, but I am trusting God in His guidance, protection, and provision and going with what He has placed on my heart.

My question is, what do I do when my now 10 year old is going into Preparing and will not be able to go through each guide to graduate when she should? I don't think she is quite ready for Creation to Christ even though she is an Independent worker. She is really looking forward to having time with mommy since her brother is now independent except for some grammar and math help. Thank you for any help you can offer with this.

Rev2Rev and MtMM history and English are enough for high school credit (assuming you use appropriate books with DITHOR for literature). So really it isn't big deal if you use either of them for 9th grade. Science would be the only concern. But the science in Rev2Rev can be high school credit worthy. And most started and colleges only require 3 years of lab science, so the MtMM science can be an elective science.
So the remaining issue would be government and economics plus foreign language, which you can add in sometime in high school.

Thank you Stephanie,

So you are saying if she stays in Preparing right now, then she can use either of the guides you mentioned for high school history, science, and literature? And which guide would you suggest skipping? They all look amazing!! That's what makes it so hard is that you don't want to skip anything. Thanks again for the response. I really appreciate it. Praying to keep looking ahead and not look back anymore at what could have been. God is good!!

Blessings,
Bryn

Before the high school guides were ever written, several people used the upper guides for beginning high school and adjusted when necessary to meet their state's guidelines for each grade. Just go in order, Preparing, CTC, RTR, Rev to Rev, MTMM, and then continue with the first high school guide. I'm thinking your daughter is starting 5th grade since she is 10? So the next 4 guides would be 6th through 9th? Which mean MTMM would be her 9th grade year, and that is easy to do-the age range for that guide is 12 to 14, and if you needed to by that time, you could add some of the extensions. Basically, you would be doing the first three high school guides for 10th through 12th, and not do the high school US History II, which is okay because she will have covered that time period in 9th with MTMM. Bottom line, if Preparing is where she places now, that is the best guide to do. Don't worry about finishing every guide, just remember that each one builds on the one before, and usually skipping in between is not recommended, unless a child has a really big leap in their abilities from one year to the next. The guides are intended to be used by skill level and are not tied to grade levels. So your daughter will graduate when she should, no matter which guide she does in 12th grade :)

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate the time you have both taken to respond. I’m excited and at peace for the first year in a long time about what I’m doing for school. She is really excited too. My son is doing an enrichment academy twice a week for his school this year and is doing well. It’s where my work is and they can come with me. It really is a customized situation only God could do. :D

Thanks again!! Blessings to you all.

Psalm 34:4-9

I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. 8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! 9 Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!

I wouldn't skip any guides. You would just not complete the last guide or two (US 1 and 2). And that is fine! Many do Rev2Rev for 9th, MtMM for 10th, WG for 11th, and WH for 12th. Others do MtMM for 9th, WG for 10th, WH for 11th, and US1 for 12th. It is "nice" to use WG-US2 for history, but the two paths above are just fine!
