Placement for 2 kids the same age but different levels?

Post by TNmom4 » Thu May 17, 2018 10:17 am

My bio son and my adopted daughter are both 6 and going in to "first grade" in the fall. My son is 5 months older than my daughter. She was in public school for Kindergarten, and my son did the first 25 units of LHFHG. This coming year my plan was to combine them in the last 10 units of LHFHG and move into Beyond. After reading HOD blog post this morning, I decided to reevaluate where each would fall on the placement chart. My son places perfectly in Beyond, and my daughter in LHFHG. Now I'm confused about what we should do for this year. Thoughts?

I would try your plan of combining your kiddos in the last 10 units of LHFHG and see how it goes. :D If it is a good fit, I would just keep them together. However, if at the end of LHFHG if it seems like your daughter is struggling and is not ready for Beyond, you could always separate your kiddos at that point. Then, you would just take your daughter back to the beginning of LHFHG then and move your son on to Beyond. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I totally agree with Carrie about splitting them if you want to. BUT....I ended up separating my two younger kiddos. And then I ended up having my son repeat Bigger because I found it was a lot easier to keep them together. If you wanted too, you could always get the first grade options for LHFHG too and just repeat it. It might not sound glorious but it might be very effective time management for you. Praying that life goes smoothly these next 10 weeks. Also, if it seemed like the one child was on the boarder, you started Beyond and just go a little bit slower and have the child that is a bit behind do some catch up. IDK. Just trying to help brainstorm some ideas so that you don't have to manage 2 different levels.
