Sneak Peek #2: New US2 High School Guide

Post by Carrie » Fri Mar 25, 2016 12:48 pm

This next sneak peek comes as an addition to our sneak peek about Biblical Apologetics for the new US2 History Guide, because it is another facet of Bible in the upcoming guide. As part of Bible in the new guide, we will include a once weekly girl/boy devotional study. :D With the maturing age range of students using this guide in mind, we couldn't let this important time in their lives pass without addressing heart issues that are specific to each gender. This is also a wonderful time in students' lives to celebrate the differences endowed upon us by our Creator and to prepare students to fulfill their calling to be a Godly young man or woman as placed upon them by the Lord.

For boys, we plan to include Created for Work by Bob Schultz. For girls, we plan to include Girl Talk: Mother-Daughter Conversations on Biblical Womanhood. Both of these books are filled with such wisdom, Godly Christian counsel, helps, and encouragement that they are not to be missed as part of a teenager's journey toward adulthood. 8) Individual descriptions of the books follow.

We have used Created for Work with our own oldest son, and we found the advice and stories to be well-timed for the stage of life focusing on a man's work and how that relates to all other areas of his life. After finding Girl Talk, and pondering the timely advice and training it contained for young women, I knew I'd found a needed selection for the girls as well. :D Growing up in a family of all girls and now having all boys has given me a unique perspective on the differences between boys and girls! We pray that your child will be blessed by reading these selections along with completing the corresponding Bible studies wound within each of these volumes. 8)

Description of Created for Work: :D
Modern culture seems addicted to ease and entertainment. It has produced a generation of educated yet often dishonest, unproductive, or weak-willed men. God desires higher standards for His people. He is looking for young men who do not shy away from hard work, who are not afraid to get their hands dirty, who can follow directions, think creatively, respect authority, and happily complete their duties in a timely manner. This is a part of training up young men to be future fathers, teachers, and leaders.

All young men should be on the road to developing a healthy attitude toward work. Honest productive work is the backbone of strong families and blessed nations. Bob Schultz's books address essential issues related to godly character as boys transition into manhood. In Created for Work he applies his engaging homespun wisdom, with stories from real life, to teach young men what it means to be good workers. Mr. Schultz uses Bible stories, interesting narratives from his own childhood, and meaningful analogies to illustrate lessons. He obviously remembers the struggles of becoming a man and does an excellent job communicating with compassion and understanding. Created for Work inspires young men and offers the tools and encouragement they need to embrace God's ways and always give an honest day's work. Chapters are short enough to read easily in one sitting. Questions at the end of each chapter make Created for Work an excellent book for discussion. :D

Bob Schultz is also the author of Boyhood and Beyond, Practical Happiness, and Everyday Battles.

Description of Girl Talk: Mother-Daughter Conversations on Biblical Womanhood: :D
Mothers and daughters have a lot to talk about. That's how God designed it. A mother is her daughter's first role model, teacher, and friend, and she carries the responsibility of passing on to her daughter a legacy of biblical womanhood. Join mother-daughter team Carolyn and Nicole as they give you insights and suggestions on how to talk—really talk—to each other about what it means to become a godly woman. Blending wisdom from the Word with their own life-together experiences, the authors discuss God's expectations for the complex mother-daughter relationship.

Girl Talk helps you learn how to speak the language of biblical womanhood, improve communication, resolve conflict---and, above all else, share the gospel with each other. Tips and study questions make it easy for moms and their teenage daughters to read, share, discuss, and grow. Includes study questions and discussion topics.

I am so glad to see that my son will get to use another Bob Schultz book. He loves these. He and my dh meet on Saturday mornings really early to do the discussions for these books and that is a treasured time for them.

I LOVE this pick! I'm still giddy from Beautiful Girlhood :) several years back and Stepping Heavenward last year. Honestly, my dd is never as excited as me but I know some day she will understand the value of our conversations. Thank you for "scheduling" this girl-talk! This is what makes homeschooling so special!!!
