OK...Need Advice. My oldest 2 are behind in the guides. They JUST turned 12 and 13. They are in unit 17 of CTC. But it looks like they should already be in Rev to Rev. YIKES. We already school year round because I work one day a week, and we have 1 day of music lessons.
What should I do? I am already considering doing school on Saturday!!
Should I skip a guide? If so, which one? I don't want them to miss Shakespeare...sigh. HELP!!

Re: We're BEHIND! Help!
Often people will skip the last guide or 2 and take the US history from Rev to Rev and MTMM for credit while beefing up of the subjects.

Don't worry about it!! Do the guides at your kid's speed....you can always 'beef' it up when they reach high school age (unless they have learning disabilities). My 14 year old...entering high school, but has learning disabilities...is doing Res to Ref this year. She will use the '9th' grade book in 12th grade. Depending on where she is school wise, I might have her take an extra year of school. I don't expect that she will ever go to college, so that extra year might do her good. Also my 9 year old son is in Bigger this year (4th grade), so he will not complete all the guides either.

Re: We're BEHIND! Help!
I think I remember that your 12 year old has struggled with some learning challenges so I would definitely not worry about being behind with him and would continue to go at his own pace, whatever that may be, where he is as independent with the guides as possible. I would never skip a guide with him. I also think I remember that you felt like your oldest was not being challenged enough. When she finishes CTC then I would look closely at the placement chart and skip ahead to Rev to Rev if that is where she places best. I wouldn't worry about her missing Shakespeare. She will have a more in depth study of it when she gets in to the high school guides.

Re: We're BEHIND! Help!
I second all those that are saying to keep at your child's pace and not to skip a guide. When you get to high school grades, just beef up the next guide for high school worthy credit. And, pick the brains of all here. Lots of experience and fab help on this board!
I skipped a guide with my oldest. Big Mistake. She needed some of the skills that guide addressed. While we loved the guide we jumped to, it wasn't evident until we started the WG guide what skipping Rev to Rev did to her.
My middle dd has neuro and emotional issues. She is very immature. She has had a severe sleep disorder since she was 4 yo. At 13yo (May), I have her in 7th grade doing RtR. She took 18 months to do Preparing. I slowed down the last part because the skill jump for CTC would have been too much for her. Getting into CTC, it took her another 18 months to do that guide. I don't fully remember the timing, but in 3 years she only progressed through 2 guides. While 'behind,' she works at her own pace and does her work very well. She just started RtR this summer and LOVES it. I think we are at Unit 4. I am pushing her to get all the work done each week (5 days). It's a struggle, but so far we are keeping a good pace. This is where her skills are, where she needs to be, and how she needs to work. I would never, ever, skip a guide with her. I am learning from that mistake with my oldest. What is great about that mistake though, is I can now look ahead and know exactly what I'll need to do for this dd for high school in regards to beefing up younger guides. MTMM will definitely be her first year of high school she keeps the current pace. It may be that she does Rev to Rev for 9th (I think she'll like that science a ton).
My youngest just turned 10 and is at Unit 22 in Preparing. No issues getting all work done in a day with her. I warned the 13yo that in a year her younger sister might be in the same guide as her. She thought it would be fab if they did school work side by side. While I was looking for a reaction in my 13yo to see the urgency in picking up her pace, that backfired on me. Then it got me thinking that schooling 2 at once might not be so bad.... Science lab partners!

Re: We're BEHIND! Help!
I feel your pain. I want to hurry my 13 yo so she can be a guide ahead of where she it, but, she is in a good placement and I must be content. It's just that all of the other guides look so great I can't wait to get to them.
If you do skip RtR you could still do the Shakespeare. She can just do them whenever--you can have her listen to them also and color them.
