Home Economics

Post by SetApartForHisGlory » Sat Jul 11, 2015 4:02 pm

My 11 yr old just pulled out her sewing machine to make something. She's taking lessons from my friend (I don't know how to sew!), and with the extra time she has as a homeschooler, her natural creative talent, and her own machine and lessons, I am confident she's going to do quite well with sewing :)

It got me to thinking. I don't remember seeing anything about home economics included in any of the HOD packages. Is there any Home Ec in HOD? If not, anyone have any good Home Ec book suggestions? I know the best Home Ec class is simply teaching my kids cooking, cleaning, stewardship, etc. But I also know there are some really neat Christ-centered home economics homeschool curricula out there. I'd love to know what other HODers use! :)

BTW, I found out what she was just making. An outfit for her guinea pig, LOL!

Has several good books and more mentioned for home economics
I personally have at least looked at the ones mentioned and have loved many of them.
Enjoy!

TrueGRIT - I tried your link but it doesn't appear to be working. Are you able to re-paste the link?

Nealewill, thanks for letting me know.
I tried both copy & paste and typing in the link, but it still won't work. Not sure what that is.
It does show up for me under the search by typing in:
looking for idea for home ec. course
( Post found on page 8

I hope that helps until I can look more into it. The post is from 2013 I believe.

I am always on the prowl for a good home ec course LOL. My oldest is very homey already. This coming year she is going to be learning to sew and we have several projects planned already.

I agree with what Carrie said in one of the threads. That simply following the HOD guides will give kids quite a bit of home economics with all the recipes and such!
