Two children using the same guide

Post by Tami » Sun May 17, 2015 3:19 pm

I have twins who are going to be working in the same guide this year and I know there are many of you who combine as well. There is much independent work at their level so sharing the guide isn't a great option.

Do you just purchase a second guide or do you handle it a different way?

Thanks!

I just had my children rotate items and only used one guide. One would work on math, while the other would use the guide. Then they would switch.

Purchasing a 2nd guide is an option, but I didn't need one when my children did Bigger and Preparing together.
Have used:
Bigger, Preparing, CTC
Son, 17, with dyslexia, doing MtMM with extensions
Daughter, 14, using Rev to Rev with extensions

Very handy for the upper level guides where there is so much written in the guide for them to continue referencing throughout their work. They are largely independent.

If you can afford to get the second guide, it makes getting work done much easier.

Thank you!

My husband is very generous when it comes to making things easier for me, so 2 guides is a no-brainer for him. I just try to be very cautious and not spend where it's not needed, however, this is one of those times where it's a necessity!

I am new to HOD. I am placing both my advanced 4th grader and my struggling 6th grader into CtC because that is just where they both seem to fit. I really cannot afford to buy a second guide so this is what I did. I took the guide to a copy shop and had them shave off the binding, 3-hole-punch it and put it into a binder. When we start, I plan to take out the 2 pages for each day and transfer them into separate sheet protectors in their own portfolios. I will give each one child the Learning the Basics portfolio and the other child the Learning through History portfolio to do their independent work. After our read-aloud time we will switch portfolios. That's my plan. Hope this idea helps someone else.

Just to clarify for other board readers, even though none of you mentioned this option, copying the plans from the guide is a copyright infringement...

I only mention this because we've run across this type of thing lately.
