Bible Version Help

HI! I am looking for help with Bible verses and which version to use with my son in Bigger Hearts. I personally use the NKJV, but my 9 yo has the NiRV version. I'm not sure which version I should have him memorize for his verses. Reading between the two, the NiRV really can take on a different meaning than others, and once he moves on, I plan to get him ESV or NKJV. He does love being able to read the verses in his own Bible. Does HOD recommend a particular version for Bigger and the later guides where the children are doing more independent Bible study?
Thank you for the help!!

Though it is a dynamic equivallancy, and not a translation, I like the CEV for young ones.

Well, I agree that NiRV is different and so different that I prefer not to use it. But, I also know that sometimes other versions can be difficult. So I used several at times depending on the difficulty of the verse. I used what I preferred, but if it was hard, then I let dd decide. I think understanding what they're memorizing is important and sometimes if it's full of unknown words or complications it can be frustrating. So I'd use NKJV since you use it, then if some are complicated, use the NiRV.

I have seen some place where it is mentioned that KJV and NIV (84) are the preferred options for HOD. We use KJV, and I found one verse in Bigger that doesn't work right in KJV. But, otherwise it works fine. Have you considered getting him a ESV or NKJV Bible now? Get one with large or giant print so it is easier to read. He can still use his NIrV for some reading, but use the other for "school."

I STILL remember best the Scriptures that I memorized in elementary school! Now I sometimes I wish I'd memorized them all in NKJV. With that in mind, I'd have my kiddo memorize in the version they'd likely use as an adult. It could be fun for him to read his NirV or other versions alongside it to get a better feel for the meaning. I also like the idea of getting him his own NKJV. I find my kids and I end up talking a lot about what the verses mean anyway, and I try to bring them up as they apply to life-situations, so they start to grasp what they mean. Plus it helps expand their vocabularies :)
