Prereading for CTC on up?
Does anyone find it helpful to preread the books that will be used for independent study in the upper elementary (and higher) guides? Is this something that is recommended? We are so looking forward to our CTC box day on Tuesday (though we won't be starting until this summer)!! I wasn't sure if I should try to carve out some time to do some reading before we start.
Blessings,
Emily

I definitely do not think it is required to preread the books. I do however usually preread a lot of books because I like them.

We are not up to those guides yet, but I trust Carrie's choices, so I would not be quick to preread.

Many people do not preread and it is not a requirement at all. I preread for 2 reasons. The main one being because I love the book choices so much it is very enjoyable for me to preread them over the summer and I learn all the thing I didn't learn in school. The second reason is that my ds struggles sometimes with reading comprehension/memory issues. He gets the general idea, but has been known to misunderstand the facts or get things really mixed up so I preread in order to help him if this happens. Most people can just glance at the key idea and they are good to go without having to preread.

Re: Prereading for CTC on up?
I know many homeschoolers who read alongside their children or read to their children to 'redeem their own education'. I am one of them! I have learned so much by reading HOD books and grown in Christ and knowledge through this process. I feel very blessed to be a homeschooler for this very reason!
Currently:

dd 12 REV (previously used LHTH, LHfHG, Beyond, Bigger, Preparing, CtC, & RtR)

Re: Prereading for CTC on up?
I wasn't thinking about the books in the upper guides being done independently. I was thinking I'd be reading them to Angie. So, yes, I will want to read them ahead of time if I don't read them to her. Like Lynn, I have really appreciated the book choices in HOD, and I am enjoying learning some things I didn't when I was in school.

Thanks for the feedback ladies! I have every faith that Carrie's book choices will be great (and age appropriate)- I was more thinking about knowing if my son actually did a good job comprehending the reading when he does his oral narrations and such. I think I'll go ahead and do some prereading- it's great learning along with the kids!
