Storytime

Ok, I feel really embarassed to ask, but how do you all do the storytime?? It seems so' unnatural' to always have to have the guide with you every time you read the storytime books. How do you handle this?

I often read what is in the guide just before we do storytime. That way the instructions are fresh in my mind. I have thought of putting a sticky note in the book too if there are too many instructions to remember.

I read the storytime at bedtime, then just ask the questions and do the discussions and stuff during school time.

I do all of the reading to my children in one block, so storytime is part of that and I have the guide open on the coffee table so I can look at it and see what I am supposed to read/do. If we have to do a writing activity or something with it I have the child get me paper and pencil and then we write (usually I write).

I also spread school out across my day. And I do have the guide with me during the story time. I actually find we enjoy our read aloud more with having questions and discussions about the books. We (my husband or I) also read out loud at bed time but at that time, we don't have nearly as organized discussions. We are hoping immensely the kids fall asleep LOL

We do a big block of our together time so we have the guide available for the other things as well. So the guide is always with our storytime. Since my dc are older now, the guide is mostly theirs, and they just bring it to me when we do our together time. They are responsible for figuring out the supplies and books we need to do our work together then they put it all together and meet with me.

We cuddle up on the couch for Storytime readings and turn on the fireplace. I just prop the guide open on the arm of the couch next to me, so we can still easily cuddle, and I can still easily see my guide!

Thanks, everyone for sharing! It's been helpful. Gives me a better picture how this can work. I'm also looking into getting audio books as reading out loud wears me right out. I came across a thread where Carrie shared how her mother-in-law so kindly read the books & made a recording. I'm going to see what I can do about this as I really do need help with the readings. This has been a big thing for me & has really kept me from even wanting to do HOD, BUT I have an 8 yr old girl who just about b e g s me to do it! So, for her sake, I'm going to try. Anymore ideas for doing HOD when you have chronic fatigue etc. would really, really, be appreciated!!

By the way, just to share, I have 3DS ahead of her- 15, 13, & 10. These 3 boys have had to put up with a LOT for these last 8 yrs. what with all my physical troubles, but they have been really great with it all & done so well with school in spite of it all. Has it been easy? No way!! but God is good & is getting us through, showing us the way - one moment, one day, one year at a time.

I think if you can find audio books and you still cuddle on the couch and follow in the book together that would be great. If you can't find the audio book maybe one of your kids or maybe another homeschooled teen could record the book for you as a service project type thing. I was a reader for a blind friend in high school and in college and would sometimes read it live to her and sometimes record books and I loved it.
