WG BJU Literature - what do you use off the cdrom?

Post by Tabitha » Wed May 14, 2014 4:28 pm

We just started the WG guide 2 weeks ago. As we get use to this new schedule, we are moving fairly slow.

One question I have about the BJU Literarture is what do you print off and use from the cdrom in the teachers book? Anything?

I am finding that my dd is reading through all her info too quickly and is glossing over terms/concepts she needs to know. Like not paying attention to the three conflict types that she can apply to all the stories in the first unit...not picking up on the definition of personification, etc.

Does anyone do anything more teaching wise for this subject than what is outlined in the HOD WG manual? I have just been looking at that to see what I need to do, and she does independently what is marked as such. With my dd not fully paying attention (if I can describe it that way) I feel I either am not doing what I should be doing, or I need to do more until we both get use to this subject.

Thanks for any advice you feel may help us.

I am pretty sure Carrie doesn't intend for you to use anything from the CD-ROM. This thread might be some help as to how Carrie does the BJU lit at her house. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14479&p=102464&hili ... re#p102464

Thank you for that. You just gave me some sanity back! :D

What I am seeing is that my dd needs to be more disciplined and pay more attention to what she is reading as far as the instructions/intro material before the stories. I don't know if she is just skimming, rushing, or what. I did print out a few pages (ones with answers) so she could see the type of info they are looking for. Letting her use the tm notes as Carrie did with her son is probably what I need to start doing as well.

We are working on having a more quiet place for her to do her work. Right now all of us are in the schoolroom, and when I am reading aloud to the others it does hinder her concentration some. Typically it's just math on the laptop which she'll take into her bedroom or use upstairs in the living room. I can't wait to get the pseudo office/school room set up for her adjacent to the schoolroom we're using now. DH is calling this new space the 'Teen Lounge'. She quite likes that idea.
