Retainers and Poetry, Oh My!

Post by mothermayi » Thu Nov 14, 2013 4:31 pm

We finished Unit 2 with a bang! My ds read the poem aloud with so much enthusiasm that he blew his retainer out of his mouth and spit in my eye! Yucko! It was so funny that we got a belly ache from laughing so hard! Looking forward to next week :-D.

Can you imagine the bullying and torture my ds would've experienced if this happened in public school? I am so grateful that I can educate my own kiddos in a safe, friendly environment that allows us the freedom to giggle at our own bloopers :D .

I am totally gonna do this  ! Thanks for the idea! I'm going to sit on the couch with my umbrella, then tell him to go ahead and read his poem. I can imagine his confusion at first, followed by hysterical laughter  ! Good thing we have a healthy sense of humor  .

You gave me such a chuckle tonight! I feel like I was right there on the couch with you, laughing my toes off! Too funny. I love the that you all have such a great sense of humor and the ability to really laugh. It is is true about the bullying. So sad that many children are raised with a constant fear of what people think of them versus this great example of being able bond with those you care about when something potentially embarrassing happens. Thank God we can raise our children in love, laughter and confidence! :D

this is adorable. what a good memory.
Praise God for the freedom for them to unfold in to the persons God designed them to be and the true social skills they grow into in our families. What a strong character trait it is to be able to laugh at oneself. Good job mama! Keep on having fun learning together!

   Thanks so much for the laugh! It made me recall when one of my rubberbands on my braces shot out and hit one of my teacher's directly on her ample bosom. She was livid and well-known for her temper! But blessedly, she didn't know what had happened and who to blame. I snapped my mouth shut and kept it that way the rest of the year. I still could have a nightmare just thinking of how terrible it would have been if she'd known it was me. How nice it would have been to laugh about it instead with my mom!

mothermayi and Julie, you both made me laugh. I need to share this with Angie. She loves silly things like this, so maybe when we get into Preparing, this will make her want to be more enthusiastic about her recitations. She gets her braces off in the next couple of months. If she gets a retainer, I can picture her trying this on purpose, just to get a laugh.
