Beyond guide spelling tests?

Post by Kteni » Wed Aug 28, 2013 12:34 pm

Newbie question:

So, looking through the Beyond guide, I don't see on Fridays that we are to give a spelling test. So no spelling tests? Just the spelling activities to show word mastery along the way? Is this correct?

Tuesdays and Thursdays are "test" days. Those are the days you say the words and they write them. Mondays and Wednesdays are the practice days, and Fridays are scheduled as grammar.

Great question! Thanks for answering, Stephanie :D I was just rolling along through without even worrying about tests. I guess it never occurred to me that on the days when I just tell her the word and she spells it...that's the same as a test  I'm only 31 and already I'm getting senior moments, lol.

:?: another question...

my children are used to working with 20-25 words per week so is it crazy to use lists 1&2 with my son? or do I stick to picking one level's list?

With my daughter, doing dictation in Preparing will be a good change and challenge for her. But wondering about my son in Beyond.

I certainly don't think it would hurt anything. But do you feel it is really necessary to do that many every week?

Since we aren't to the writing the words stage (my daughter is only 5.5 but ready for SOME spelling), I am doing both lists for the simple ones (short vowels). Then we will probably drop list 2 when they get to be harder words.

I haven't really considered the necessity of it. Good thought train... thank you. It's funny. I have been trying to think of things that I need to do to transition into HOD from what we have been doing. Really, I need to just give it a real go as is eh? I seem to be overthinking things.
