Quoting / copying another's work

Post by WellsSchool » Tue Aug 20, 2013 3:40 pm

Whew. Today was even better than yesterday. I was a bit concerned that my boys would balk at the increase in writing and reading from our previous homeschooling years, but I've been impressed with their attitudes for the most part. Besides God's grace, I think I can thank Carrie and her fabulous selections that have kept their interests piqued.

Another question (thank you so much, everyone, for putting up with me!): Today the boys were to copy a "memborable or worthy" quote from their reading (CTC, Unit 1, Day 2). I don't want to overwhelm them, but I also am kind of a stickler for copyright and giving credit where credit is due, and I want to teach them the importance of honoring an author's intellectual property. What format would you suggest?

Thank you again,
Lori

Since they are just handwriting it in the box on the notebook pages then you could have them either do a hyphen at the bottom and put the speakers name if it is a direct quote someone said or if it is just a quote from the book then they could just put the hyphen and then write The Story of the Ancient World. I don't think you need to put a page number or anything like that. We honestly didn't do either since it was just for his personal notebook pages.
