Preparing question on history books

Post by jacynamommy » Tue Aug 13, 2013 9:55 am

I have a question before I order Preparing books...
1) On the SELF-STUDY DELUXE HISTORY PACKAGE: FOR THE NEWLY INDEPENDENT READER, I see it says if you have an advanced reader, may be better to order the SELF-STUDY EXTENSION PACKAGE FOR OLDER STUDENTS instead. I would definitely say my guy is an advanced reader. Would you all recommend bumping him up to that? I don't want him to be overwhelmed by big/long books, but I also don't want him to be bored and under-challenged!

Thanks!!!
Meredith

Personally I would get the SELF-STUDY DELUXE HISTORY PACKAGE: FOR THE NEWLY INDEPENDENT READER even if I was using the extensions. If you don't have those than you would be skipping one of the daily I boxes which include some of your history notebooking assignments. The books in that package are really good and add a lot to the history study. I think if this is for your 9 year old I would just get the above mentioned package and not the extensions at all. You can get him books more at his reading level to use with DITHR.

I completely agree with twoxcell. The self-study deluxe books have their own box with specific assignments for them. The extension books do not. They are really meant for a 10-11 year old that is doing the guide with a younger sibling. With a 9 year old their is really no reason to do these. If you want to challenge him more you can do that with the DITHOR books.
