Rev to Rev or MMTM?

Post by sted » Fri Jun 21, 2013 10:18 am

My 14 year old has done Bigger, CTC, RTR and then took a year off for Canadian History. Now I'm in a quandry as to where to place her. Skills-wise she could easily do MMTM or probably even even the New Geography guide, however does she miss out alot not doing Rev to Rev?

I'm really torn....

And if she did do MMTM, is there a book or two she could read this summer, kind of a fast track to catch her up between the Rev to Rev and MMTM time periods? The music composers part looks really good as well, so it would be hard to skip that.

Any help?
I'm thinking though that Rev to Rev. probably wouldn't challenge her as much skill-wise as she's pretty competent with LA skills. (reading/writing)

Thanks,
Shannon

My daughter loved Rev to Rev this past year. I'd hate to skip that one. I think it's been her favorite year to date.

Are you considering her an 8th grader or a 9th grader? Rev to Rev is very good, we just finished it this year. I will say that I have been looking closely at the MTMM guide and reading all the books that go with it and it is going to be a jump up in skill level from Rev to Rev. In fact I think it may end up being similar to the jump from Preparing to CTC. The bible study looks more challenging, the thinking skills required and the amount of writing output required increase significantly. Write with the Best 2 looks very challenging. If you are considering her a 9th grader and you think she has the skills then I would be tempted to put her in MTMM. She could easily read George Washington's World and The Story of the Great Republic over the summer. They are pretty easy reads.

Did you notice the first part of The Story of the World is skipped in the MtM guide and also the first part of All American History? It is about 12 chapters in each book. I am planning on having my boy read this before he starts the school year because he is also skipping Rev to Rev. I am also sad about having him skip Rev to Rev, but his younger brother is going to be doing it in a few years and I know he will read most of the books then, because he loves reading. I know it's not the same thing, but it will have to do.
