Sarah Witcher's Story or Little House?? For almost 7 y/o boy

Post by intotheirhearts » Fri Jan 25, 2013 7:36 am

We are starting historical fiction today. Sarah Witcher's Story or Little House in the Big Woods? For an almost 7 year old boy. Thoughts?

I asked my dc and my ds said tell her to read "both". LOL. Then dd pipes up and said but have her read Little House on the Prairie first. My vote would be for Little House on the Prairie.

We had the Little House books on audio so we did Sarah Witcher's Story as a read aloud. My son still refers to that book. There is a picture book with the same story (but simplified because it is a picture book) called A Bear Who Heard Crying that became a favorite after we read the original SW's Story. It is one that if it goes out of print I will buy up for each of my kids' families to own someday.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

I forgot that we actually read Sarah Whitcher's Story for the adventure genre. I think Little House could fit in that category as well. So, if you'd want to read both, you could use one in the adventure slot. Too many good books to choose from. :D

Highly recommend both! We did Little House when DS was in Beyond and now we are doing SW with DD in Beyond. Everyone listens and so far both are a hit. I don't think you can go wrong with either. :D

Liked them both, but I would go with Little House if I had to pick just one. You just can't beat reading a description of making "head cheese" or playing with a ball made from a pigs bladder!!
