What guides are you doing?

Post by Carrie » Sun Oct 28, 2012 6:43 pm

Ladies,

We have finally settled into a routine and are enjoying our school days. :D I have a 6 year old doing LHFHG full-speed, a just turned 10 year old doing Preparing full-speed, a 13 year old doing MTMM full-speed, and a 16 year old in his junior year of high school. :D

What guides are all of you doing? :D

Blessings,
Carrie

We are doing LHFHG half speed with my almost 5 year old dd. We're doing our half speed a little differently, however, in order to even out the amount of time each day. Because the reading and math take longer, we do the top line from both pages on one day, and the bottom line the next. It's working better for us that way.

My 2nd grader is using Bigger mostly full speed, except that we only work four days a week. There are some days we just don't get to everything, and we just push it off to the next day, or skip it if necessary. My dd has been working hard every week doing vision therapy, and have to do lots of reading for that, so I don't want to overburden her at this point in time.

My 6th grade dd is using RTR. She is doing quite well, considering we are switching from a more classical style to a CM style. I was rather unsure how she would take to narrations, but she is doing quite well. She is having quite a lot of fun with the history projects. She didn't think she would, but it is the first box she chooses to complete most days.

My 8th grade dd is using Rev2Rev. I am having a bit more difficult time with her, not related to the curriculum but just because she's a teenager. I had hoped to add the extensions half way through the year after she got used to a new curriculum. That may not happen, but it's on the back burner. Heart issues have to take presidence over school, so we have to get the heart issues worked on before I can realistically add to her work load.

All in all, we are very pleased with our switch to HOD for this year. I wish I had more time to read all the books for myself though! The narrations make everything sound so interesting and fun!

Blessings.

We're using Rev2Rev with our dd, and even though we are using it for 10th grade, she's actually still in the recommended age range for extensions, since she started it at 14 and is now 15.

HOD has been such a perfect fit for us, and we're excited to have it all the way through high school! (She loves geography and can hardly wait to get to that guide for her senior year after MTMM next year!)

We are enjoying CTC this year with my 10 year old twins. We're completing DITHOR level 4/5 and Singapore 6A/6B this year. Tomorrow will start our 9th week in and we're feeling like we're finally getting into the swing of things. :D

We are doing Bigger Hearts 4 days a week with my 8-year-old. Since he is slightly dyslexic we only get a little over 3 days worth of work done.
The good news is that he picked up 'reading' about 3 weeks ago and is 2 thirds of the way through the Easy Reader Bible in the ER schedule. :D

Then we are about to start LHFHG 4 days a week with my 5-year-old. We can't wait for that!
I have been trying to come up with a new schedule to try once we start on that.

Some days we do LHTH with my dd3. But mainly she likes to do her 'school' by doing the R&S workbooks.

We have 3 days left in Beyond with DD 8!! We did it 4 days a week last year & loved our time in it. We are both very excited to start Bigger, hopefully on Thursday!! My DS 5 has 10 weeks of LHTH left & I can't believe the growth I've seen in him this last year. So we will start LHFHG with him in January, probly half speed. And wondering how our schedule will work with a newborn due in Dec!!!!

We've completed the 1st 15 units of LHFHG with my just turned 5 year old dd and 6.5 year old ds. We were doing 3-4 days a week, but have been taking a baby break most of this month. I am contemplating starting back at half pace and continuing through the holidays while I adjust to balancing newborn needs with the the toddler and homeschooling :D . Then we can resume regular speed in the new year.

We feel so blessed to get to use HOD. My entire family LOVES homeschooling and it was so easy for dh to step in and take over for certain activities and even entire days of school during the last few weeks of pregnancy. He even asked the other day if we could start back up and he is willing to do all the teaching  . It didn't take him long to figure out how fun it is to teach using HOD guides :D !

We are doing RTR with ds 12, absolutely LOVING it! Next is CTC wtih ds 10 1/2, second time around for Mom and learning even more  . Next we are finishing Beyond this week with ds 7 1/2, bitter sweet feeling. We will wait until January to start Bigger, too many interruptions with the holidays. Lastly, we are enjoying our last trip through Little Hearts with dd 5 1/2. I am savoring the time and not rushing. It amazes me how each child takes different things from each guide. Thank you Carrie for making our homeschool journey more enjoyable with an AMAZING GOD honoring curriculum. As my boys would say, "You rock!"

My dd9 has been doing Bigger 3 days a week. We may start doing 4 days a week now, since we are finshed with co-op. We'll see how it goes. I think we'll be fine with 4 days when we do not have appts. etc. Not ready to do 5 days. Probably will finish the guide full speed next year.

My 6yo is doing LHFHG full-speed 4 days a week, so we can do not one, but TWO co-ops on Fridays. Also, my 3yo is doing LHTH, when I think about it! LOL!

In LHFHG, we just started Unit 26 today, and we have a goal to finish LHFHG before we head to Hawaii to visit my sister (and coordinate trips with my mom) in mid- to late-January!

I know, it's rough, isn't it!? But DD6 is motivated! After our trip, we'll start Beyond half-speed. She is just doing awesomely, so I look forward to more of the same when she starts Beyond. She'll be around 6.5 when that happens, and I fully intend to stretch it through her eighth birthday.
