Post by Charika30 » Tue Sep 18, 2012 12:22 pm

Hi all,

Forgive me if this answer is already somewhere on the website, but I am ordering DITHOR and not sure if I should order the 2/3 level or 4/5 for my kiddos??? Thanks! :)

it depends on your kids reading level, if they are 2/3 grade lvl choose that one If they are 4/5 reading lvl pick that one.
There is also a book list you can buy for 5$ that you can use for DITHOR and the books are usually in the library.
Hope that helps.

This is my first year with HOD. We are using Bigger and DITHOR. My daughter is 9yo/4th gr. I would say she reads on grade level, but struggles with comprehension. From the posts I looked over, a lot of people suggested using the Level 2/3 Student Book (with books at or below the child's reading level) if you are using DITHOR for the 1st time- even if your child is older. I have to say it is an extremely thorough program. I'm sure some veterans will chime in! :D

Thank you both! :-) I hope so Robin...I think I remember reading that the 2/3 level included a lot of introductory phonics? And my kids are definitely beyond that. I didn't realize the 2\3 and 3/4 stiid for GRADE level, though...ooops :-O lol...Thx again!!!

I do not remember any phonics in the 2/3 book. I think in the teacher instructions there is a suggestion to do your own phonics program but no phonics anywhere in the book that i remember. I would say it depends on their reading level and also how much they mind writing. If I had a 4th grader that did not love to write or struggled here then I may put that child in a 2/3 workbook until he was comfortable with the amount of writing and independence of the 4/5 workbook. Each book gets a little more independent...they read to you out loud in each one, but less each progressing book..hope that makes sense! :D :D
