First week of Rev to Rev completed

Post by LynnH » Thu Aug 23, 2012 12:47 pm

My ds finished his first week of Rev to Rev. It has been overall a good week. He has surprised me with the things he has verbally mentioned he likes. He loves the state study and the classical music study. Most likely because he gets to create something. Of course the science is the biggest hit. He couldn't wait to show his dad how his electric car would go around in a circle. He does seem to have a full blown case of 13 year old boy brain going on right now in that he is not paying close enough attention to directions and his ability to orally narrate seems to have flown out the window. I am hoping that next week he will improve with both of those things. Funny thing is at the end of last year he was doing well with those things and had struggled some with dictation and grammar. This week he got all the dictation passages right on the first time and he is spouting off the answers to the grammar review questions with no issues. Just when I think I have him figured out he gets older and everything looks different :P

Isn't 13 year old boy brain the best!? :( Bryce struggles with that too! Many times, I will go back and look at his week's notebooking pages only to find that he has skipped a whole box! We are working on that!

Bryce loves the state study as well - He says it is his favorite! We are doing that individual State History by that same company this year (because it is required in my state in 8th grade) and he loves it just as much. Bryce has a love/hate relationship with the Science. He loves the building part of it. He does NOT love the part that requires precise measurements or long "make up your own" experiments. However, this Science is, on its own, high school credit worthy according to the company's website (when you use the Advanced version, which we are using) so he knows that he is just going to have to "learn to love it." LOL

Glad your first week went well. We are finishing week 9 and still loving it here!

I have a 13 year old boy, too!! My husband and I were just commenting today on how amazing it is to watch this boy turn into a man. His thought processes are becoming so mature - and thankfully, so is his behavior! Whenever he misses something, I gently point it out. The child who was once so defensive quickly apologizes and goes to figure out what he missed! So thankful! :D This is our first year without major behavioral issues at the start of school. Thanking God!!

We are wrapping up Unit 3 tomorrow & my ds is still enjoying Rev to Rev. He announced to me today, "Mom, I actually look forward to school everyday...well, most of it! I really like that state study and the Bible study." He likes his science, too, but this year we strayed from HOD for that...simply because he is so science minded. For his summer reading material, he checked out a high school Physics textbook from the library. Whenever he had a question, he came and asked me. Let's just say, Mama spent some time brushing up on physics this summer - it had been a long time! :D

Look forward to sharing the year with you ladies!! :D

Glad you had a great week! We did, too, and it's funny, because our dd LOVES the state study the best, too!! (Sounds like most of the kids here do.) ;)

We just finished our first week with Rev to Rev, too and I also have a 13 year old boy :D . He did nearly all of his Science today with the wrong glue and had to let it dry for a long time before we could do any "repair" or any of the next steps. So good to hear you all share and remind me to be patient and understanding with this "13 year old boy brain" stuff :o .

Happy Weekend to you all!

Wow, congratulations, Lynn! :D

Sounds like you and many others had a great week with Rev to Rev! It looks like such a great guide! We're currently doing RTR, and enjoying it quite a bit. We'll be moving on to Rev to Rev this January, so thanks for posting this as it's such an encouragement to others headed that way!

Many blessings for your school year! :D
