R&S Question

Post by Mom2Monkeys » Mon Apr 16, 2012 7:28 pm

We will start CTC this fall for DD which will be in 6th grade. She will be in R&S 5. CTC starts half pace.grammar so she will do 5 over 6th and 7th and then 6 over 8th and 9th. I don't like that idea so much. If we hadn't gotten so behind.on school from.my health issues wed.be finishing.CTC and the first half of r&s 5 this yesr and starting RTR for 6th this fall. So, what do I do? I really wanted her working.exactly out of the guide to help her stay streamlined and on track and limit flipping around for her. Should I add an extra lesson.per week for all of CTC or pace.it to.finish all of 5 for 6th then start RTR in 7th with half pace r&s 6?
We are already behind in 4 and hoping to.finish it this summer. :/

Being in 6th grade in CTC and R&S 5th is just fine! Don't stress out about it. Finish the 4th grade this summer if you wish, but then jump into CTC as written, and you'll see she will get exactly what she needs. With the writing in CTC and the grammar of R&S, she will get a well rounded English/Language program.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

I'm okay with r&s5 in 6th grade but we will only get through half of it. We won't start r&s6 until 8 which is when we should finish it. But we won't finish until end.of 9th. ??
Shouldn't we purpose to finish r&s 6 by end of 8th as advised by Carrie?? I'd rather we were even farther than that but obviously we won't be. Lol

If I consider my ds an 8th grader next year then that is exactly what his will look like. He is finishing Rod and Staff 5 and then he will do R & S 6 for his 8th grade and 9th grade year. That will give me 3 years to get R & S 7 and 8 done. I figure one of those years he will do a full level and the other 2 he will split a level.

Good to hear, Lynn. :)

I'm still curious about what others have done or will/would do in this situation. She will be majoring in something dealing with English is my guess. She is white the writer and enjoys it immensely so I figure it'll carry on to college. I'd like to have her on level, on track....KWIM? Im just not sure what that looks like.

I looked at the introduction for RevtoRev and it states that you could do all of Rod & Staff 6 since they would be in 8th grade. They would then do R&S 7 & 8 for High School. It states for 6/7 grader to do all R & S 5 or 1/2 of R & S 6. Since dc would be 8 they could do all of 6. That is my interpretation of the introduction in RevtoRev that I found on the main page of website under introduction to RevtoRev and in the 2011-2012 HOD catalog. So R&S 5 second half in RTR and all R&S 6 in RevtoRev. It doesn't appear you would be behind. In RevtoRev it says English 7 is not scheduled but the lessons are divided in the R & S text for ease of use but it is scheduled in Missions to Marvels. The HOD writing/grammer appears to be top notch. I used other writing/grammer that was not as intense with my older dds and it has been above average for their college writing and ACT/SAT scores. HTH

Thank you! So I guess she will do half of 5 for 6 and.half in 7th then all of 6 in 8th. I'm wondering about the workload, however, and if perhaps doing all of 5 in CTC then half of 6 in RTR and rev2rev would be a better balance.??? I know the guides will only get heavier each year....hmmmm

Here's another thought, to make things more confusing! What do you think about doing half of level 5 for her CTC year (6th grade), working in a lesson on the fifth day of the week when you're able to? Even if you did 1/4 of the book on the fifth days, then do the same thing the next year. So you'd actually do 3/4 of level 5 during CTC (6th grade), the last 1/4 of level 5 and the first half of level 6 during RTR(7th grade). Then you'd start out Rev2Rev doing the last half of level 6(for 8th grade) doing it pretty much as written in the guide! :D Clear as mud? :D

I hope that makes a little sense and can help a little. If you don't feel that this would work, just disregard this. I was just thinking about how I'd set it up if it were me, but that may not work out well for your situation! Anyway, good luck with your decision!

I like that idea. :) basically doing it as written but adding a lesson a week onan off day when we can. Then there's always a couple.days a week for summer if needed. :) we tend to need the structure anyway.

Hi Tamara!

I didn't read through all the responses you already got (just skimmed), so forgive me if someone already mentioned this.

I'm quite sure that CTC and RTR are the ONLY guides where HOD schedules Rod & Staff half-speed. The other guides will be planned with a full-speed schedule. So, it looks to me like you're right on track and can follow the schedule in the guides as written.

Glad to "see" you again!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread . . . . .

Really?! I didn't realize that. And I just looked at the Rev2Rev sample week which shows that yes, grammar is full speed, 4 days per unit :) YAY! THANK YOU VERY MUCH Kathleen, now I can relax about it. LOL
