Language Arts Question LHFHG and Bigger

Post by Blessed with seven » Wed Oct 27, 2010 11:26 am

Hi,

Well....I have made my purchases, I have LHTH, LHFHG and Bigger....I am sooooo trying to simplify my life!! I have Sonlight LA for my K, 1st and 3rd Graders BUT...am thinking that this will be an added stress as LA is covered in these guides correct? I bought Preparing to Build and Copywork/Dictation is covered in the Guides correct? HOD helps w/ writing, creative writing etc..?

I have a tendancy to want to do "everything", then get overwhelmed and do not get a lot done sooo...

I have appreciated ALL the help in choosing which programs to use!!! I am going to get DITHOR next time I have some money for my older son and my daughter.

In the meantime.....I am just overdoing by trying to do a LA program correct? I have a phonics program!! I have phonics readers. We love ETC so..I will use those just because my kids like workbooks.

Let me know if I am missing something.

If you have Preparing to Build and your HOD guide you are set as far as Language arts. I started with Preparing, not Bigger so someone who has used Bigger can tell you exactly what boxes cover what, but the Rod and Staff books have writing assignments as well as grammar in them.

Oh good, BIG SIGH OF RELIEF. I tend to try and do too much and I need things SIMPLE :!: :!:

I have committed to HOD for one year regardless.....this is a big deal for me so, I don't want to add things here and there and make it difficult when it doesn't need to be!

Thanks a bunch!

LHFHG has gentle introduction to Grammar. It's not every day.
Bigger systematically goes though rod and staff 3. Covering LA for you no need for extra workbooks etc.

We often just do it orally so it doesn't' consume a huge chunk of school. But right now were covering Proper nouns and its got quiet a bit of writing in it. We just do some of the work on a white board. Because my DD is weak in writing but she loves LA and I want her to keep that love..which would quickly turn to tears if I made her do ALL the writing they wanted.

Blessed with seven,

If you have a phonics program, phonics readers, ETC, and have a math program, then you shouldn't need to add anything to LHFHG beside what is scheduled in the guide. :D As far as Bigger Hearts goes, as long as you do Preparing to Build English 2 and have a math program, just follow the Bigger Hearts' guide and you are set. Be sure to do all the follow-up activities for storytime in Bigger Hearts too, as you'll need it to cover your literature/reading skill area. When you add DITHR, you'll have a complete picture. :D Until then, the Storytime part of Bigger Hearts will do a good job in that area for you. :D LHTH is complete on its own as a readiness program.

Blessings,
Carrie
