Testimony to HOD
Testimony to HOD
We have had a lot of snow this year. My ps'd dd has had several snow days. My ds and I have schooled on those days. I was feeling kind of guilty about that, since I know several of my homeschool friends that give their kids snow days. Yesterday we had a big snow storm. My dd and my dh were both home. I gave my ds the option of doing school or having a snow day. He chose to do school!!! He said school is too fun to miss a day of. My other homeschooled friends were amazed. Of course none of them are doing HOD. Last year when he was in ps he prayed all the time for snow days. I am just so thankful to HOD for making learning fun for him.

Re: Testimony to HOD
Another family here that schooled through the snow days! Our county just had 6 total days of school off in a row! I'm in Northern VA, and altogether during our huge storms, we had 40 inches of snow in my area of NoVA. That was CRAZY! Things are still not back to normal, but the PS kids went back on late schedule today. My kiddos didn't mind one bit schooling while their neighborhood friends were off. However, with the promise of wonderful sledding after school, I must say they were MUCH more efficient than usual. Bring on more snow days!

Yep! We school, too, but then head out and enjoy the snow. The best of both worlds!

We school on the snow days too, or we'd never school in SD (especially this winter)! Seriously though, when it's blizzarding out and ps is called off, we still school and love the fact that when the weather is nice in the spring we are done with school. I feel so sorry for kids in ps when the final date of school keeps getting moved further ahead as snow days pile up, and then they are schooling later and later into the year when the weather actually happens to be nice here. Lynn - I just have to say I love your ds - he has one awesome attitude about school - and life in general! Thanks for telling us about this!

Re: Testimony to HOD
Thanks Julie. He really does have a good attitude most of the time. Of course he can also be typical kid and whine about things. Today we had one of those times as he was not happy about the length of his copywork passage from Leif the Lucky. He was throwing a mini-fit. I reminded him of the bible verse of doing "everything without complaining..." and I reminded him that he has copied long passages before. He was quiet for awhile and finally said "Mom you are right, it isn't that long. I can do it". So he does have his moments like all of us, but he does usually come around back to a positive attitude.

Re: Testimony to HOD
I think our sons are a lot alike, Lynn. That sounds like a conversation I'd have with my oldest ds, but he's pretty easy to reason with as well, and usually can get his attitude back on track with a little help. This is a great character quality to have - one I work to have myself, and one I'm trying to foster in our other 2 dc. Your ds has it down pretty well on his own, just as my oldest does. What a blessing!

Re: Testimony to HOD
That's great that he chooose to still do school!
Up here in the north east, we have been jealously watching all your snow as we are well below our norm for the season. Until yesterday, we could see patches of grass...we don't usually see any grass untill end of March/begining of April. But we did get almost 10" yesterday. The funny part is that the schools panicked and all canceled school for the day and the snow didn't start falling until almost 3pm!!! So there is a wasted day that those kids will have to make up in June and we went right on with our normal school day! And with HOD we were still able to finish up and have lots of play time outside!
