Preparing Hearts for His Glory:
We are in Unit 30 - woo hoo! Nearing the end of another amazing homeschooling year together! The finish is always a mixed bag of 'things have gotten easier,' which we celebrate the skills that have improved, and 'things have gotten harder,' as the dedication needed to finish strong must be a conscious choice as work hours pick up, fishing season is ushered in, and book conventions are on the horizon for us. I do love this busy life though. I do love the blessing of being able to homeschool. I do love hearing the boys laugh together - work together - share together - pray together - play together - this is the happy vision of 'family' and homeschooling that I always dreamed of. It is not easy; if it was, everybody would do it. It is not without its mishaps; no one is perfect - parent nor child. BUT, it is the life we love, it is our life purpose for the Lord, and it is the best way to live out these crazy busy days together! I mean, who gets to do school like this?!?...
Emmett is my 'free spirit', full of life, quick to smile, one of those precious kiddos that has a laugh that is just so hearty you have to join in! He is my kiddo to sporadically leave me notes, to go with me on walks, to surprise me by making my bed for me, and to just do unplanned happy things! Like, for instance, this makeshift 'school hospitality suite' for him to crash on to do his science for the day (pictured above). He's just plain happy. He sings at the top of his lungs, races into a room as if ready to attack, and approaches life with gusto! Oh to have that kind of energy again - how I wish I did! One of the harder things for Emmett is to settle down and focus to do more disciplinary school subjects, such as written narrations, for example. BUT, I have good news! He is improving in these areas, and with enough time for more movement and more inspirational subjects in between these more focused activities, he does pretty well...
Still, it is the inspirational type subjects that have Emmett's attention and heart, like this necklace/pendant he got to make for his history project while researching Renaissance jewelry. This is now hung on our fridge with magnets...
Finally, for DITHOR, his Student Notebook answers are getting better and better, more detailed and more succinct...
In Christ,
Julie
