LHFHG ~ Combining a first grader with a kindergartener

HI,

I am sure this question has been asked before, but I couldnt find it in the archives.

When we start LHFHG in the fall I will have a 1st grader and a kindergartener (which is one of the reasons I chose this program). What I would like to know is how do you combine/not combine the two.... I know some of the things like Bible, History etc will be easy to combine and of course math and language arts I will keep separate, but what about science? Would I need to keep it separate also? or should I just get "The World God Made" or "Our Father's World" and just use one of them for both? If so which one would you recommend? Now that I think about it, I guess that is the only subject that I am not sure of (unless you can think of another).

Oh, I also forgot to ask....where do the instructions for first grade appear...when I check out the first week I could only see the selections for K.

Thanks

Kay

That's exactly what I'm doing this year! :D And you are exactly right-on with your thinking. I just bought the first grade science text...Our Father's World...and we combine science as well. It has been perfect. We combine pretty much everything except reading and math...they get one-on-one lessons for those.

You're going to have such a fun year...we LOVE Little Hearts!

Kay,

You have just the right ages of kiddos to combine them in "Little Hearts..."! :D You're right on track with your plans to keep them together except for language arts and math.

Even though the samples on our website don't show both levels for language arts and math, they are in the teacher's guide! We haven't updated the Sample pages on our website to reflect that. The guide shows Earlybird Singapore Kindergarten Math in the "Math Box" of the plans and the Singapore 1A/1B in the Appendix. It shows both Rod and Staff and Thinking Skills grade 1 in the Fine Motor Skills Box. It also shows 4 choices for handwriting ('K' and 'Grade 1' handwriting for both Italic and "A Reason for Writing") in the Storytime Box as well.

You can pick either "The World God Made" or "My Father's World" as your science core. I actually like "The World God Made" a little better overall, but both are good.

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks so much Melanie & Carrie,

I had already gotten "Our Father's World" through PBS (Paperback Swap) but was eyeballing a "World God Made" on ebay (dont anybody else touch it LOL)

We already use MUS with our family and it has been a good fit so far, so I probably wont be using Singapore....although the curriculum junkie part of me would love to try it just to see (good thing I can't afford to indulge my curriculum junkie tendancies LOL....I have a friend who is one so I just go over her house and look at her stuff)

Anyway thanks so much for your answers....I am so excited about this!

That's pretty much what we are doing. You will love it. It is very flexible! Works great with multiple ages!8)

Enjoy it!
