How to Use DITHOR With a Dyslexic

Hi, I am seriously needing advice on whether I should start DITHOR with my dyslexic son who is 10. He is very intelligent, but he can barely read on his own and it really slows him down. Writing is a bit better, but also lags. We will be doing Bigger with his younger brother. He will be picking up in the middle of the Emerging Reader's set (Specifically the book Tornado). Are these books conducive to using DITHOR, and if not should I wait for his reading ability to increase? Or should I continue to work on his reading skills and read aloud or get books on CD so he can start working on the skills in DITHOR? It's not a matter of comprehension or ability to understand content. I could really use some guidance, please. Thank you!

Hi, my dd10 has a reading disability and it's look to be dyslexia, but we haven't had her tested specifically for it. We started Bigger in the Feb. with the intention of doing Right Brain Phonics by Diana Craft and the Emergent reader for my younger two. When she saw what my other two were reading from the Emergent Reader set, she two wanted to read those books. I don't know about you, but sometimes I take my focus off Jesus and begin to worry for her future. I have had to fight the tendency to push in an attempt to get her at level, and be happy that she is enjoying books once again, she is progressing into books she would never have attempted (books with chapters, thick in size, small print), and with each challenge she meets and completes she is gaining confidence. I have had to adjust my thinking that my goal is not to get her to read at level, but to love to read and the rest will follow. We are beginning Tornado this week. It is our intention to finish the Emergent Reader set along with Right Brain Phonics and then move into DITHOR. After reading Jim Trelease's The Read-Aloud Handbook, I have included into our day read-aloud time for a book of her choice along with the suggested HOD story time read-aloud just as advertisement. Sometimes the books they can read don't hold their interest or have the suspense that makes you want to read the next chapter like higher level books do.

Sorry I could not answer all your questions since we have not begun DITHOR. Did you post this question on the main boardfirst? You may get more of response there.
