Re: Please tell me this happens to ya'll too
Oh, thank you. I was just stressed and didn't realize it but was sick at the time too! LOL I do that, go to the doctor and the nurse will say, "did you know you have a 102 fever?" No, I usually don't realize it. I just ignore it. I'm wierd. Anyway, today was great, they're attitude is gone, they had...

Please tell me this happens to ya'll too
First, let me say that in the months doing HOD Bigger and Beyond, every day has been fun, and normally we just buzz right through with little to no problems. Yesterday was the most difficult day homeschooling ever. I dont know if there was something in the water, or if my kids temporarily lost their...

Re: DITHOR questions
I look at the book and decide how many days it should take to finish comfortably. Alot of the 2/3 level books are fast reads, so they should be the 5 day or maybe 10 day on some of the harder one's. Why don't you get him some from the library and see if they're too easy for him??? That way, you're n...

Re: Bigger Copywork Question
There is SOME copywork in Bigger. In addition to situations where there will be handwriting. As far as my kid goes, he does his cursive workbook, and everything else I let him choose which format to write in (cursive or print). I THINK in preparing they will have more opportunities to write in cursi...

Re: Painting Paper?
I never thought about it. I've always just used printer paper, or construction paper, or whatever was white and within reach.
LOL
Yeah, I'm a dork.

Re: Opinion Poll: Storytime for the new book (after Preparing)
storytime unrelated to history. Mainly because I know my kids. And I know that if you give them too much of X subject, make it too much a "theme", then they glaze over and are in LA LA land. If I can throw in some funny stories, or something interesting to them that's different, they will be much ha...

Re: Bigger spelling question
I am doing bigger with my son and we do a pre-test on the spelling words. If he gets them right we do dictation instead. I originally thought the words were a little "behind" what our public school is teaching, however I was surprised how many of the words that I thought he knew, but he gets them wr...

Holy Moly, Great reading Batman!!
Ok, my 8 year old went from not being able to read a single paragraph to now reading the emerging reader books in 20-30 minutes! And he has excellent comprehension, able to explain the book completely to me. Although, for some wierd reason, the idea of him sitting and reading a chapter book really t...

In Bigger, I do ALOT of the reading out loud to them. I read the history out loud- way over his level! I also read the storytime, but there are activities for the kids to narrate back information to me (comprehension). If I need to read a bible verse, I always read that out loud... the words are so ...

In bigger, there are a few poems that you have the kids circle patterns, or cut up the poem and have them arrange in order. I'm lazy, I just retyped the poem and printed it out and let the kids to it that way. Not enough copying for me to be willing to drag the kids out to the copy place, or buy a c...
