Re: They all look good - help me pick my read-alouds!

Thanks ladies! This is exactly what I was hoping for. The Cricket in Time Square was one of the books that I already have, so I'm excited that you've all loved it so much. This is great info. :) (I also realized as I was reading all of your replies, that I'll have another chance to pick a different ...

They all look good - help me pick my read-alouds!

So I'm at the point of coming up with my list for read-alouds for Beyond and I'm having a problem in that I want to choose them all! I know I have boys - but even the girls list looks good! What's a book-lovin' mama to do? Anyway, I know that they're all top choices, but I figured I'd come her...

Re: Child's Visual Schedule for HOD

My ds needed a schedule too, and I was thinking of making some kind of chart for him. Then I came across a pocket chart (on Amazon) that a teacher would use in their classroom for things like sentence strips, etc. I think it was around $20. So I bought that and then just wrote all of the subjects on...

Re: LHTH with K?

Erin - Just wanted to second Julie's suggestion of using ETC to solidify phonics. We've used books 1-4 this year for K and they've worked great! Shari - So funny that the boys have the same names! We actually know 2 other families in our church that have both a Ben and a Sam - but they are all colle...

Re: Question about NYS history requirements and upper level HOD

Actually, the thing that was freaking me out was in the first paragraph, which makes it sound like US history has to be taught each year - grades 1-6. But, now that you mention it, the other paragraph does seem to contradict that when it says at least once . So very clear! I haven't done anyt...

Re: LHTH with K?

I did what the previous poster said - used LHTH with the LHFHG K options for fine motor skills and phonics (didn't do the math) - but I did that for PreK, not for K. DS needed a little more that just LHTH and was doing well with handwriting and beginning reading, so I decided to add that in. This ye...

Question about NYS history requirements and upper level HOD

Help!! I've just started looking into the NYS reporting requirements because I'm going to need to start reporting in September. Even though this issue won't affect me for a couple of years, when I saw it, I kind of freaked out. I know there are those of you who are using or have used HOD in ...

Re: What unit are you on for LHFHG?

We just finished up day 3 of unit 15 today - and we started at the beginning of September. We are ahead in math (I think around unit 19) because ds moved through the beginning of 2A a little more quickly than was scheduled. We pretty much try to stay on the ps schedule as far as what days we do scho...

Re: Question about Little Hearts for His Glory

Just wanted to mention what we did in case it might be something you'd like to try. We actually stretched LHTH for 2 years - doing it a couple of times a week when ds was 3 and then three times a week when he was 4 (for his "pre-K" year). The 2nd year, I added in some of the Rod and Staff books and ...

LHFHG - Tune of "The Little Green Frog"

Can anyone help point me somewhere that has the tune to the song "The Little Green Frog" from LHFHG unit 8? Apparently that's one that I missed learning growning up and my son loves the rhymes that are set to music so I'd like to learn it to teach him if I can. Thanks!

Re: Which program are you using this year and when do you start?

Hi Mary!

We will be starting the day after Labor Day (when hubby - ps teacher - goes back to school). Ben (5.5) is "official" now - he will be starting LHFHG for K. And Sam (3.5) will get his own program - he'll be starting LHTH. :D

Notebooking/journaling question

I was wondering the other day, how do you "preserve" your notebooking/journaling pages once the school year is over? Do you just keep the 3-ring binder with page protectors "as is", or do you have it bound somewhere? I had just assumed I would keep all the 3-ring binders, and then I realized it migh...

Re: Dealing with a perfectionist

Thanks, ladies. Such good advice. I realized last week as my frustration level with him was high (and not even over anything school-related), that I was going to have to work on my reaction to him before I could hope to help him. And you ladies have given me such encouragement. I think I'm going to ...
