Re: Silly question about Placement?

Yes, it is my understanding is that Preparing is a one year overview of world history, which would naturally "prepare :) " them for the 4 year history cycle that starts with CTC. You'll love CTC!

Re: New with Questions

Just wanted to say hi and welcome! Truly, I could have written your exact post almost when my oldest was your oldest's age! It wasn't until HOD that I felt like everything "clicked" for us. All of the work in tying it all together has been done for me, and I love the "open and go" aspect that the pr...

Re: New here! Intro and questions...

Hi and welcome! Just wanted to say that we also switched from MFW to HOD. While I think MFW is a great curriculum HOD is just a much better fit for us. As for handwriting, if your son already knows how to form his manuscript letters and just needs more practice, then the copywork in Beyond should be...

Re: Combining Storytimes for Preparing and CTC

Yes, CTC allows to you choose either storytime books that go with the history, OR storytime books according to each genre (fantasy, historical fiction, etc.), so this would be super easy to combine!

Re: Would HOD work for my family? and if so, what level?

Just wanted to add that CTC is scheduled for the child to do quite a bit independently-(the box will have an "I" in the upper right) This will really free you up to work with your younger ones. What I really appreciate, though, is that the CTC guide also schedules that time for you to have one on on...

Re: Anyone doing bigger with a 2nd grader?

Thanks so much for everyone's help! I think it confirms my leaning toward Beyond. Like someone said, it will be much easier to "beef up" Beyond if needed than to start with Bigger and have it be too much for her. DITHOR will be something new and more of a challenge to her in the fall, and I can adju...

Re: Anyone doing bigger with a 2nd grader?

Thanks to everyone who has responded! That is what I was thinking-just moving on to Beyond. The only reason I am considering Bigger is because she fits it on the placement chart for the most part. She is an independent reader, has mastered formation of capital and lowercase letters, can copy 2 or 3 ...

What a great idea! Can we request extra catalogs to give to friends or others that we meet?

Re: RTR: A Week at a Glance is up!!

Wow! It looks so great- what a blessing to already have decided what we will doing for 6th grade in the fall. Usually, this time of year, I'm stressed because of all the decisions. Carrie has put everything together for me, and after using HOD this year for CTC and LHFHG, I know it will be a great y...

Anyone doing bigger with a 2nd grader?

Just looking to hear from those of you who are using Bigger with their 2nd grader. Are you going half-speed or full-speed? How is your second grader doing with the amount of writing? (we are finishing LHFHG and dd is placing mostly on Bigger for next year, but I'm not so sure skipping Beyond would b...

Re: 2nd Grade: Should I switch math

We are doing Abeka 1st grade as well. We tried Singapore at the beginning of the year, but my dd loves the COLOR of the Abeka worksheets. (We had done these for K) However, since we are doing LHFHG, we did not have Carrie's scheduled hands-on math activites that go with the Singapore, so that might ...

Re: Does this sound crazy?

I don't think your idea sounds crazy! :D But, I would suggest maybe you reconsider using LHFHG for 1st grade. That's what we did with my dd this year for first grade, and it has been a great year! At the beginning of the year, dd was continuing phonics beginning to read, and needed more practice wri...

Another blessing of using HOD

Just wanted to share... The other night, during our family devotional for Easter, we were discussing how challenging it is to be mindful of God all throughout our day. My 6yo dd (who is doing LHFHG) said "Yes, but when we're doing school, I think about God the whole time !" Just another confirmation...

Fun activity today!

I just wanted to share how much fun we had today. We are on Lesson 21 in LHFHG about Ponce de Leon. All three older kids (10, 6, 4) loved getting to be the "archeologist" and finding Ponce de Leon's helmet and cross. I actually had my oldest set it all up for my 6yo, which she thought was great fun!...

Re: From LHFHG to BLHFHG

Hello! We are using LHGHG as well, with my 6 yo dd. The "Stories of the Pilgrims" used in Beyond is actually a totally different book than "History for Little Pilgrims". I haven't done Beyond yet, but the history should be pretty new. Instead of the biblical history that we had for much of the year ...
