Re: English has become over her head

I wonder if I should buy the workbook and just go over the worksheets up to where we are? We're half way through chapter 6. I think I'd restart the chapter in the fall, after doing the reviews for the previous chapters.

English has become over her head

My 10 year old, 4th grade daughter is doing level 4. The last while, we've been pushing through, but not really understanding. Should I put it away and pick it up in the fall, when she'll be closer to 11 or how should I handle this?

Re: Conference schedule

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll never see them.

Maybe they'll do more conferences once all the guides are done and she's less busy.

Re: Transcript help

I intend to have a 1 page document listing the courses, grade and completion date. I will also have a document with a description of each course a list of material used. Lastly, I will have a portfolio of her work from each grade. Just a 2-3 pieces from each course, with a focus on showing writing s...

Re: Annotated literature books multiple students

That's a possibility, thank you.

Carrie and Julie, I know you both have a few to go through them. What are your plans?

Annotated literature books multiple students

Part of the beauty of literature based curriculum is how reusable it is:) Will I need to buy the lit packages 6 times? Or, how what's the best way to handle all the annotating when you have multiple students?

Re: About to begin Preparing - question about Deluxe Package

It really is a great part of Preparing. All the drawing is in there. I too feel it's preparing kids for CTC. They may not be ready for the workload without it.

Re: Helping Maintain Curriculum Through Daily Use

I was debated by my crumpled cover when I dropped my first guide, the first week I had it:( I put them in page protectors in a large binder that colour coordinates with the guide. I really like it!

Help with student notebook pages

My WG daughter is having a hard time. Her scholar prisma colour pencil crayons don't get dark enough when she colours. She wants to write in pencil so she can erase, but, it's really light and it erases the sheet colour when she does erase. When she writes with pen, it gets all smugged. Her biggest ...

Re: 11 yo can only spell a few words

We too use a rule based program. It's not just about going over rules, but staying on one rule til it's mastered. That said, becoming a fluent reader has helped her more than anything. That only happened this year. Her spelling is coming along now that she's seeing words more often. I guess that's k...

Re: Crazy to switch curriculum in October???

Honestly, your 11th grader is really close to graduating. If she's doing well with MFW and enjoys it, I'd let her stay. We switched in January, when my 9th grader was in grade 2. We went from Sonlight to Winter Promise to HOD. So glad we did! With your younger 2, I'd just put them wherever they plac...

Re: I am sooo overwhelmed!!!!

Thank you Julie!! I have tears in my eyes:) That is exactly the encouragement I needed. So much practical advice. I will certainly refer to this thread over and over. I know you've helped many others too. I've just felt like I'd be cheating my child if i didn't know how to grade well. I signed up fo...

Re: I am sooo overwhelmed!!!!

All the note booking stuff. Making sure each little bit of instruction was completed. Written narrations. Composition. I have nothing to compare it to to see if it's done well or poorly. I would appreciate it if you PM me:)
