Re: Struggling with a slow-paced child-advice please!

Hey we are from the same great state! Yes it's been a trial and error thing. He's independent in so much yet still needs help with keeping on schedule. I do see vast improvements from the beginning of the year, so that encourages me! Glad I could help. :) And yes it would be helpful to see God's pla...

Re: Scheduling multiple grade levels

So I've never even thought about it being a big deal and I have one in a four day week and two in five days. The child in a four day usually saves something for Friday, but since he has way more on his schedule it's a bit more relaxed day for him to match the younger ones. Or if we need to be gone o...

Re: Struggling with a slow-paced child-advice please!

So I saw this and just HAD to reply after my morning with my lollygagging nine year old. :) We have a variety of things in place to help and continue implementing things all the time. Here is what we've tried. #1 scheduling: we have an official one on the wall for our school day, and he has a copy t...

Re: Emerging Reader 2xs?

I know with my daughter, she is doing ok with her phonics, but was not going through our program at the suggested rate without struggles. It is fine, since she is a young 5 (Sept birthday), so the ladies on here suggested I go at half pace with her. Right now I'm going at a speed that is comfortable...

Re: Math for Beyond

I find that sometimes the visuals in the textbooks are nice. They help with creating word problems based on pictures as well as provide examples that the workbooks don't provide. They are also in color. However, they are not necessary. Maybe it depends on how comfortable you feel in math. I have a m...

Re: Tell me about your Bible time...

As far as curriculum goes, I also love how LHFHG and Beyond take a story or principle of the Bible and lace it into the history, the verse, the rhymes and poetry, science, geography, and the read alouds. I don't know about any levels higher than Beyond, but I do know as I was checking out other curr...

Re: Help with Placement Issues

Thank you all SO MUCH for your insight. My instinct about stretching out Kinder was echoed in several posts, only I was thinking of doing every other day. I love the idea of doing 1/2 page a day and going "half speed" instead of full speed every other day. Besides that, we have another dd due in two...

Help with Placement Issues

Hi all! I have been using HOD for several years. I started with LHTH with my oldest (DS7) when he was 3 for some structured time together. We stretched it out over 2 years and then I decided to go with another program for Kinder that promised teaching all your children at one time. Long story short,...
