Re: Advice about when to start LHFHG

First of all, if they are appropriately placed, you don't have to let things go around the house to do school ;) I agree, properly placed kiddos makes a big difference! Our situation is a little different than most families in that we have a couple of children with special needs. Our 8yo (we adopte...

Advice about when to start LHFHG

My kiddos aren't really cooperating with "the little plan" I had figured out for starting guides/combining (this should come as no surprise!!). :D We've been slowly working through LHTH with the 3 littles along with doing many other educational activities and reading a TON of books. Our 7yo has Down...

Re: Things aren't working; need feedback, please.

If you have concerns about your 9yo son successfully moving into Preparing for 5th grade because of the writing, reading, and independence issues you listed- I think that trying to combine your almost 7yo and 9yo is your best (and really only) option for combining. It doesn't sound like combining th...

Re: new, few questions

I'm sure many more experienced ladies will chime in with some help- but my suggestions would be to definitely hold off on LHTH with your 2yo boy. He has plenty of time to do it the following year and even the year after if you want to go half-speed. You'll be super busy with the new baby and I'm sur...

Re: Help! What do I do to keep up with my LA-gifted 8yo boy?

Thanks for all the helpful ideas and insight! I think I'm going to stay the course with Bigger, knowing we're covering our bases, and working on some obedience issues (& doing work with a cheerful attitude). I like the idea of letting him get his work completed quickly and allowing him time to pursu...

Help! What do I do to keep up with my LA-gifted 8yo boy?

We had started out our 2nd grade year w/Beyond and ending up switching to Bigger because I felt like he needed something more challenging. Now we are finishing up 2nd grade and I was planning to use Bigger on into 3rd grade but his LA skills keep growing by leaps and bounds!! Examples: He just turne...

It always feels so good to get back on track! We took a little break last year too- starting back up w/HOD is like a breath of fresh air! :D

Re: Holding back starting a guide to keep kiddos combined?

Thank you ladies for your thoughtful replies! It sounds like things could work either way. I guess I could try it the way I planned it out and then separate the girls if Josie ends up not being far enough along to keep up with the guides. I don't want to hold Anna's learning back- it just seems sill...

Holding back starting a guide to keep kiddos combined?

Trying to figure out when to start LHFHG with my 4yo dd (turns 4 next month actually). She just started using The Reading Lesson and is trying to trace letters in our "just for fun" pre-k workbooks. I'd think she'd be ready to start next July/Aug when she just turns 5 or certainly by the time she is...

Re: Tomboy or Trouble?

It might be worth talking with her pediatrician about (privately). It could be that her interests are more geared toward "boy" type things and she feels more comfortable in those types of clothes or something more than that. Your doctor may be able to refer you to someone she could talk to about her...

Re: Considering coming back to HOD - down syndrome

I was SO excited to see this thread!! We are using LHTH with our 6yo son that has Down syndrome. Sometimes he doesn't want to participate in what we are doing- but sometimes things seem to "click" for him! I'm hoping as we slowly move through it, he will understand more and more. :D If he had his wa...

Re: Struggling with finding a balance

Whoa!! If we had your schedule I can honestly say we'd have a hard time getting any school done too! I have more little ones, but what slows me down more than anything is having to leave the house. If I were you, I'd aim to do school 4 days a week (M,T,TH,F) and drop art, ballet, and watching your n...
