Beautiful South Dakota
Hi, We are traveling through South Dakota over the next few days on a trip out west, and I just have to say it is beautiful and so fun to see the "heart" of South Dakota! :) I cannot believe the sun is still setting at 9:50 p.m.!!! We've been watching it set for the past hour! It's just beautiful! :...

Re: Need Guidance for a Typical R&S 6 Day
Thanks, Stacey. So you do the tests instead of the chapter reviews? And do you cover the sections in the lessons that the worksheets don't cover? It seems like they usually cover one section of the written lesson.

RTR and extensions
For an 8th grader in RTR, is it better to do the extensions instead of the storytime if time is too tight to do both? Do you do the extension activities and skip the storytime activities? And they read the extensions themselves, correct?
Thanks,
Kathy
Thanks,
Kathy

Re: Need Guidance for a Typical R&S 6 Day
Thanks, christianmom! Which year did you use CLE? Did you switch at the higher middle school levels at all? I'm wondering if R&S ramps up more than CLE in 7th and 8th? Obviously the writing does, but I'm wondering if the grammar does, too? From what I've seen, they seem to be similar in the lower le...

Re: Need Guidance for a Typical R&S 6 Day
Thank you both for explaining how you use R&S. Christianmom, thank you for your thoughts on possibly needing R&S 7 or 8. I have had the same feeling, and have been trying to decide what to do there because it would help to be able to use the high school guides as written. In comparing R&S 6 and CLE ...

Need Guidance for a Typical R&S 6 Day
Hi, My 8th grade dd will be working through R&S 6 this year, and since it is our first time using R&S, I'd like to get a handle on how a typical day flows. I've heard all along to do 2/3 orally, 1/3 written, but I need help understanding more specifically what that means. I have read in the past how...

French
Hi, My dd would like to study French for her high school foreign language credits. She has been using Duolingo this year in 7th grade just to get familiar with the language, and could continue on with that for 8th grade without assigning credit to it. I was wondering if HOD has any recommendations f...

Bigger Hearts - The Ship that Sails PDF Correction
Hi,
I checked under PDF corrections and could not find a replacement page for The Ship that Sails. Is there one? The child is supposed to circle rhyming words in crayon, and I'd like to have a copy without the errors for my child to work from and to store for our records.
Thanks,
Kathy

Re: Middle School Math - BEFORE Foerster's Algebra
Katrina, I have used Singapore, MM, and CLE, and I have found BJU to be the middle ground I was looking for. It is conceptual but still provides the underlying structure that MM was lacking as far as having them show their work (or at least the equations they are using to solve the problem), practic...

Ok, thank you! It's good to know not to expect it to stay on the page and to watch quickly for the message or you miss it.
Thanks,

Preparing Unit 13 Invisible Ink Project
Hi, I did a search and cannot find a thread on this. We tried the invisible ink project and it seems like the water washed the baking soda away or something. A few letters were briefly visible as the water was applied, but it disappeared quickly and we never could read the whole thing. Any suggestio...

Re: Math sequence?
Maria Miller, the author of Math Mammoth, which is similar to Singapore, says this on her website:
"I am in the process of writing a full pre-algebra curriculum during 2014 (Math Mammoth Grade 7)."
So this might be one possibility for a pre-algebra option in 7th grade.
HTH,
Kathy

Re: Bigger Unit 21, Day 3 Johnnycakes
Thanks, we ended up making them with 1 cup milk and 2 tbsp oil and they turned out fine. So it's supposed to be 1 cup + 2 tbsp milk and 4 tbsp oil?
Thanks,
Kathy
Thanks,
Kathy

Bigger Unit 21, Day 3 Johnnycakes
Can anyone tell me what "1 cup milk + 2 Tablespoons, 4 Tablespoons cooking oil" means in this recipe? Are we supposed to add 2 tablespoons of milk in addition to the 1 cup, or is that a misprint on the tablespoons of oil?
Thanks!
Kathy
Thanks!
