Re: Question about HOD high school science plans
I'm so glad to hear that HOD is adding a creation/evolution study in the later years. My SIL and I were just discussing the other day how important it is for our kids to study what people in opposition to creation believe so that they can know for themselves WHY they believe in what they believe! Th...

Bigger extensions as read-aloud for younger kids?
I'm just wondering if there are any of you that have used Bigger's Extension package as an extra history read-aloud for your younger kids. I would plan on doing just the history stories - i.e. - Pedro's Journal, Ben and Me, etc. - won't use the science or A Child's story of America (although they lo...

Re: Beyond for 1st?
We are just finishing up Beyond for 1st grade and it has been a wonderful year! My ds was 6 when we started in the fall and turned 7 in December and he's done really well with it. That said, we are probably going to slow down with Bigger and stretch it over 2nd and 3rd - adding in some of our state ...

Re: Beyond Little Hearts in 4 Day??
We normally run a five day week , but there are those weeks where we've had something 'extra' going on like a field trip (or a snow day  )and I've wanted to condense our work down to four days, and I've found that Beyond is pretty easy to do that with. History on day 5 is a Bible passage - wit...

Re: What to use for a first grader?? Beyond Little Hearts??
Hi and welcome! We are using Beyond for 1st grade this year also. My ds turned 7 in December. For phonics we had worked through First Reader and ETC books 1-4 last year and added in some easy readers along the way and through the summer, so we started in with the emerging readers when we started Bey...

Re: Bigger Hearts Age Question
We will be using Bigger in the fall for 2nd grade. My ds will be 7.5-8.5. We're doing Beyond this year for 1st, and we've done the emerging readers with Beyond, but the emerging readers are also a choice for Bigger, if you feel your son places better there in all of the other areas. Definately check...

Re: Favorite storytime books for Bigger?
Yes, we did use LHTH with both boys and loved it! That was actually how we found HOD to start with and now we're hooked. We're planning on using LHFHG for K in the fall - so right now with Sam we're just filling in by getting a head start on math and phonics, doing some of the earlier R+S pre...

Favorite storytime books for Bigger?
I'm starting to think about next year a little bit and looking over the storytime choices for Bigger. I always get stuck here because they all seem so good and it's hard to pick favorites for my little guy! So tell me your favorites and help me get "un-stuck"!

Re: Hitting a wall with Emerging Readers - what to do?
You ladies are terrific! Thanks for your responses. I think we'll pause for a while and enjoy some more books at this mid-point level and then continue on when he's ready. I can't tell you how much of an encouragement it's been to find out we weren't the only ones who had this experience - and that ...

Hitting a wall with Emerging Readers - what to do?
Hi all - I was wondering if I can get some advice. We are just finishing up unit 15 in Beyond and ds (1st grade) has been doing well with the level of the emerging readers up until this week. I noticed him struggling significantly more with the words in Buffalo Bill than he did just the week before ...

Beyond poetry copywork
For those of you who have done Beyond already - did your kiddos copy the entire poem every week? Some of them are quite lengthy and I can already hear ds whining about how it's going to take hours to copy. So I'm just wondering how it worked for others...

Re: Storytime Plans and book packs for Beyond Little Hearts
I was having the same problem about a week ago so I started this thread and thought it might help out: http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6163 Great minds think alike. 8) I think I've pretty much narrowed mine down except for a few genres that I'm still pondering. In addition to...
