Re: Switching out titles
I suppose it would work if it is for storytime, dithor......but not as a core. Not all books are created equal so a bio about him could be very dry, fact filled, non living.....or it could be engaging, full of factual story, living..... where are you trying to swap out?

Re: Beyond/Bigger Placement and Questions About Use
Great decision! We are doing Beyond half speed right now, and it is my second time through! My oldest did it as an advanced 2nd grader. It was a great intro to HOD and covered skills very well! As for the emerging readers, yes. She will need to be able to read it herself, out loud to you, and then a...

I think you will get a really good idea of what you need by reading the introduction pages, which you can see in the MTMM sample

Re: Singapore 2A Question
Ive never taught mine to search out key words bc with singapore, as they get deeper in, those can mislead you! Multi step problems dont always have two sets of key words to know which operations, and the order in which to do them both must be deciphered as well. So i have taught mine to draw them us...

Re: New to HOD - Rev 2 Rev
Welcome!! We are finishing up my 11yo's 6th grade yr with Rev2Rev as well and start unit 6 tomorrow. :) She is an excellent oral narrator and does decent with the written narrations. They were much better in lower levels bc it was much shorter readings, but the whole year is ahead of her to learn an...

Re: How long is Rev 2 Rev is suppose to take?
We are doing 4 guides and my oldest is in rev2rev. She is 11, 6th grade. We have a routine that takes her from 8-3 with breaks for chores, lunch, snack, and playtime with the toddler. You can see my schedule on the schedules thread, page 11. :) She could do most days if she were an only child in 4-4...

Re: How do you manage it all?
Bigger takes about 2.5-3hrs if i remember right. If you look on page 10 (i think!) of the sticky at the top of this page, " Let's share our schedules!", youll see the times per box for all the guides. Amd youll also see several schedules showing how moms work their days with various combos of guides...

Re: read aloud ? for Rev to Rev
But if something HAD to be cut In Order to be able to financially afford using HOD, could the extensions be cut? Would the history portion still be credit worthy? I do understand all that is being discussed and appreciate the responses that I have gotten. I am in no way saying that the extensions o...

Re: For the experienced-combining question
I recently posted a schedule with how we do 4 guides with 4 kids in our house (it's in the sticky at the top of this board "Let's Share Our Schedules" It is doable! I think 3hrs sounds about right for Bigger too. We usually took about 2.5 to 3hrs at that level for my oldest.

Re: Using Multiple Levels of HOD
Thank you for sharing! I've never managed to put mine on paper, but I'm doing five different levels of instruction and am happy with how our days go. It definitely is manageable (though busy!). WOW!! Way to go! I really cant figure out where to fit one more anything on mine. Kudos to you with manag...

Re: read aloud ? for Rev to Rev
The skills in storytime differ from those in DITHOR (the lit study). They are quite specific. I'd probably at least do a few of them. Maybe every other one, and could always let her read the others for pleasure. I'm just really big on skills and we don't find them burdensome at all for my 6th grader...

Re: DITHOR ?
I think it would be too much. I suggest starting part way (maybe half?) through the emerging readers to habw her read to you amd use the HOD schedule amd qiesrions that are perfect prep for DITHOR.
