Re: Masterly Inactivity ~
Ladies, Thank you so much for your posts! These are speaking to my heart tonight! I find myself feeling guilty about NOT researching more, planning more, etc. HOD is perfect for my kids and for my family...and it's easy! From talking to other HS moms, I feel like I need to be doing more. You have re...

Re: Please tell me you DON'T do this with the Rhymes and Motions
Well, we are a bit of a combo here! We don't make a big deal of the LHTH stuff, because my ds would rather do the rhymes from LHFHG with his big sister. She loves both of them. We use them to "take a break" from our more serious stuff. We all do it together on the first day of the unit. On the secon...

Re: If you could start all over again...
I started LHFHG for K this year with my dd (born in July) and wasn't doing much with my ds (born in Dec 2-1/2 yrs later) figuring that I would work with him when he turned 3. Well, I discovered that he absolutely LOVED doing HOD with his sister. I ordered LHTH planning to use it for him when he turn...

In need of advice for Beyond
Ladies, I am in need of your advice about the storytime readers for Beyond. I am planning to use Beyond next year with my dd, who will be 6 this summer. She is doing awesome in Little and loving the stories (and not complaining at all about the content or covers). She is very particular about what b...

Re: OT--For those who have homeschooled preschoolers
I so know where you are coming from! I have never sent my kiddos anywhere else for learning. Even though I now have one in K (and one pre-K), we still aren't "considered" homeschoolers, because here K is not required, although most kids go to K at the local school. I just know that I am doing what n...

Re: Singapore with special needs?
water2wine, I am sorry if my comments came across wrong. I wasn't trying to imply that you should have chosen Singapore for your special needs child. I totally get that the two situations are completely different. My main thought was about the placement tests in general and trying to share what we h...

Re: Singapore with special needs?
I want to jump in and comment here about the placement in Singapore. My sister switched to Singapore this year with her kids, one in 6th and one in 3rd. Her oldest struggles greatly with math. I think she's been convinced she can't do math. We were looking at several different math programs at the c...

Re: Calling all HOD Texans.....
We're in Texas too! We are north of Houston and using LHFHG and LHTH. I am planning to school year round, so we are stretching things out. I plan to continue with HOD for at least the next couple of years. I would love to know if there are any other HOD users in the north Houston area!

Re: I need "natural" consequences for habit training!
This is so timeley for me. We struggle with these things a lot at our house. I really like the book by Lisa Whelchel called Creative Correction . She has helped me to think outside the box in my correction/training. Here are my thoughts: 1. Use proper table manners - don't have too many problems wit...

Re: Prioritizing school/outside activities - advice?
This thread is sent from God for me to read today. We are about halfway through LHFHG for K this year and I am feeling very overwhelmed with all of the opportunities for activities. It has become very clear that I need to be more intentional in choosing what activities to participate in. There are s...

Re: Advice in changing my Kindergartner's program
I don't know if this will work for you, but it did work for us. My 5 yr dd wasn't comprehending anything I was reading her either. I think we were halfway through Reddy Fox before I figured out how she "listens" well. She had been begging me to color while I read, and I didn't think that was a good ...

Re: keeping kids together but one's not quite ready
I am by no means an expert here with HOD, but I am confused a little about your question. My first thought would be to have your 5 yo do LHFHG and have your 4 yo sit in with the lessons and do what he is able to do, maybe spreading his year out to 1-2 year for LHFHG. But then I see you don't want to...

Re: Teaching calendar skills - days of the week, months, etc
Others have already stated that LHFHG has some calendar work as well as Singapore 2A. I did our calendar work in pre-K. My dd was very interested in the days of the week early, around age 3, so I found other resources. I found some information on calendar studies (and money as well) at learningpage....
