Phonics Question

Hi, ladies! I am considering switching around what I am currently using for phonics. My dd7 just completed Beyond and is moving into Bigger. She is reading at a 4th grade level, which is awesome. I used Explode the Code with her and she loved it. I started using it with my ds5 and he likes it as wel...

Re: I met Carrie and Julie!

I met them in Orlando as well! Carrie and Julie were both so helpful and willing to answer all of my questions. This year will be my 3rd year using HOD and if you aren't sold on the curriculum, I think you will be once you meet them. I don't know if I will ever use anything besides HOD. Thanks to Ca...

HOD and Co-op Question

I just got out of a planning meeting for a co-op that I am joining next year. I am excited about the co-op, as we have been searching for a while to find one in our area. I have a dilemma and I am hoping that some of you have faced the same things and can help me figure this out. Next year I am plan...

Orlando Convention

Carrie,
I just have to say that I am so stinkin excited to see that you are coming to Orlando! If someone runs up to you on Saturday and gives you a big hug, that would be me! HOD has been such a blessing to us and I am so grateful!

See you in May!

Combining children

I am a planner and am thinking ahead a bit. I have 4 children, with the oldest in 1st grade using Beyond and 2 of the younger children using LHTH. I love HOD and really don't want to switch to another curriculum. I am trying to figure out how to possibly combine some of the children in years to come...

Re: Spelling for Second Grader

We are using Beyond this year as well and I was very concerned in the beginning about the spelling lists. I thought my daughter would fly through them and she did complain a bit about the first few weeks because she "already knew those". However, I did see her making some mistakes as we went through...

Re: Question about cursive

Ladies, Thank you so much for the responses! I love reading cursive just because it's so much prettier than manuscript. I think I was really looking for some encouragement and maybe some "ammunition" when it comes up again. Not having taught it before I didn't really understand the benefits. You all...

Re: Organizing your HOD year

I am currently using LHTH and BLHFHG with 3 children. I have a basket for my dd and one basket for my sons (both using LHTH). I keep all of the books that we are currently using in that basket. They can reach in and grab them pretty easily. I also plan 4 weeks at a time. So I have an accordion file ...

Question about cursive

I have been talking to other parents and wondering what everyone's thoughts were about teaching cursive. I am hearing from others that they don't think it is as important as it used to be because of the ease of typing things on a computer. My initial thought was that it helps you to write faster tha...

Re: Organizing your HOD year

I do something similar to some of the other posts. I plan out 4 weeks at a time and put everything for one day at a time into a slot in an accordion file. I take a little time and go through each lesson and make copies, gather supplies, etc. This saves the panic when I don't have something. I just m...

LHTH-Small Talks about God

I just realized that my version of the LHTH book already has the ABC Bible Verses in it. We received Small Talks about God from a family member as a hand me down and I didn't realize that my LHTH book already has the replacement book in it. Is there a way to get the old schedule that included Small ...

Re: my3sons -- question?

Julie, Thanks so much for sharing! I am looking at some of your schedules. How did you complete your school year only doing 4 days per week? I would like to stick to 4 days per week just so we have some down time on Fridays. But I don't want to really have school year round. Any thoughts would be he...

Re: More Beyond questions

About doing Bible first...Our family feels that it is important for our children to start their day in the Word and in prayer. However, we did not do the Bible boxes first in the day. Our kids have a Wednesday program through Word of Life where they have a daily quiet time that they have to complete...

I am struggling with the same decision. I think Singapore is comprehensive enough but I like the presentation of other programs of similar quality. Curious to hear what others think....

Re: Guess what I just did!

I know how you feel! We just got all of our books in for Beyond and I can hardly stand it! I just want to jump in but we still have 2 weeks left for LHFHG and a baby due to arrive any day. My dd was very excited to see all the books come in, too! I can't wait to dig in. Not sure when we will start t...
