Re: Anyone noticed? Week at a Glance for Ancients is UP!

No message. Who needs one. Just get over there. Get to the point why don't you? Well said! And I thought nothing would be going on here with Carrie on her way to a conference (I think I read that in one of her posts) - I was wrong! CTC looks great! I can't wait for ds to do it, but now that I...

Re: Need Advice on Teaching DS to Read

Thanks ladies. Kirstin, I will look forward to your picture post. I have heard so much controversy over phonics and sight reading and dc in our ps not being able to read after they "graduate" from the "sight readers" about 3rd grade that I just want to be sure I do this right. I look forward to add...

Such a blessing to see changes in ds....

I cannot tell you how big the smile on my face last night as my family rode together to an awards dinner for my dh's work and the whole ride my 2nd ds, 7yo, was on the lookout for daffodils! This is my ds who "hates school," balks at all art assignments, loves Star Wars, loves all things battles, gu...

Re: LOVING unit 20, day 5 in Beyond!

Yay - something to look forward to. We got to scrub the floor the other day as the Dutch were scrubbing their houses in Stories of the Pilgrims. I'm glad to have some warning that earning lunch is coming up later .... I'll have to plan a little more exciting lunch that day or I won't have anyone und...

Re: Lesson Plans

I understand what you are saying - I don't like to write in my book either. That has been fine with Beyond, but I will "share" the Preparing Guide with my ds and he is quite a doodler! I've always done a "weekly assignment sheet" for him (days across the top and subjects down the left side) ...

Re: Do any of you add..

I've never used FIAR, but I bought Veritas Press's First Favorites Comprehension Guide before I got HOD's BLHFHG. It uses similar books (Blueberries for Sal, Caps for Sale, etc.). I have a Mommy's Helper who comes one day a week to help me with my 5 yo and my 3yo (and the kitchen!) while I do school...

Re: Two questions about Beyond...

Lynn, The story in Boys and Girls of Colonial Days is about Goodman Bradford and his daughter Love. There is more than one Bradford, and I believe you have him confused with William Bradford, who did not have a daughter named Love. :D Blessings, Carrie Carrie, Thanks for clarifying for me. I think ...

Re: Two questions about Beyond...

Jen, Thanks for your help! You are a wealth of information. The wool/cotton explanation helped. We may try it again and let them sit longer. I loved reading the links you provided for Bradford and Brewster - they were great! The story we read about Love Bradford was from Boys and Girls of Colonial D...

Re: Long break

Good for you! I see you're in Sarasota, FL - I'll bet you have had beautiful weather! I was blessed to go there for a week with my Mom and my baby (while dh stayed home with our other kiddos) around New Years and it was absolutely beautiful. I'll be glad to get to visit again someday. We're on week ...

Re: New to HOD

Brenda, Hi! Just wanted to say welcome from a fellow CC-er. We just recently found HOD and started Beyond about 6 weeks ago with my middle 2. My oldest will start PHFHG next week most likely. Like you I wish I had made the decision to use Bigger at the beginning of the year, but that's okay... my mi...

Two questions about Beyond...

We are in week 6 of Beyond (and loving it!). I have two questions... 1) A few weeks ago we read the story about Love Bradford coming to Holland and living with a Dutch family, having patience waiting for her tulip to bloom, and finding her father William Bradford after the other English pilgrims had...
