Re: Any plans for additional grade levels?

Yes! :D I'm excited too. Carrie is just finishing up the first high school guide now, with plans to complete the last 3 in the next few years. By the time we get there, we'll be able to go all the way! :D

Welcome, by the way  Nice to have you here.

Re: Doing Beyond 4 days instead of 5

You could do it a couple of different ways. :D If you are a 'Day 1 has to be on Monday' person  then it probably would be better to do 5 days in 4. That involves either skipping some boxes or doing an extra box or two every day. Or, if you're like me  you just let it take however long it ...

Re: Updating the guides?

It is being updated now and Carrie has posted that it should be available for shipment in September. :D The original guide had daily math plans scheduled with Singapore's Earlybird Math, US Edition, which is no longer in print. So the math was changed to Singapore's Math Essentials K, and the guide ...

Re: New to HOD, question about 7th grader

I can tell by the great questions you're asking that you've really done your research  Now, I can't speak to CTC and its components, as we haven't gotten there yet. I'll let the pros tell you all about that! :D But I do know from reading posts here made by the author, Carrie, and her sister, J...

Re: Our Art projects flop....HELP!!!

Just a question: outside of school, do your children enjoy doing art projects? I ask only because I am not an art person  I have absolutely no interest in art, fine art, or doing art projects. Every time we come to an art box I have to grit my teeth and just do it. I would never do it on my own...

Re: Getting Ready for Beyond

The only thing I've had trouble getting hold of is tempera paint. Apparently no one sells it up here in the sticks :D Go figure. Everything else has been very simple. One or two notebooks. Pencils. Crayons. Glue. Regular, washable paint or fingerpaint. Paint brushes. Counters for math (preferably ed...

Re: Question about using LHTH with a 3 year old.

Welcome! Three is a great age for LHTH! :D Not only are they ready to learn, they want to learn! And they have a lot of fun doing it in LHTH. My son is almost 4, and we've been doing LHTH for 4 months. He loves it. I anticipate the program taking us until he's five or nearly five to finish because.....

Re: I know this is a silly question but...

Great question! And thanks for the link, Candice :D I had sometimes wondered that myself, but since all the boxes came from South Dakota I simply assumed that's why it is called HOD  Thanks for asking, Cher! There are a lot of newer members since that post (like me :) ) and it's great to know.

Re: How Is the Christian Perspective Brought Out?

I'm only using two of the first guides, but I'll answer as best I can. :D Soon more of these good ladies will add their experiences as well. The discussion questions after reading selections are open ended; i.e. there are no answers. They are intended to encourage the student to think through what t...

Re: Read-aloud question

Well, I am glad to know we're not the only family that really, really loves to read! Good to know  It's funny how you've mentioned having several books going at once- I do that! I usually have at least 2 books going at once. And (okay, I know this is strange) I like to read with the TV o...
