Preparing versus CTC?
This is my last child to try and place for fall! :D I am still praying about and sitting on the decision of Rev2Rev versus MTMM for our oldest (I did do a thread on this question that was very helpful). My second son I just started a thread today for CTC versus RTR. Now I am coming out with a thread...

Re: CTC or RTR?
I don't know. I would probably go with RTR b/c he is going to be ready for R&S English 5, has writing experience with the co-op, has almost finished Land Animals which is used in CTC, and reads on a 7th grade level. CTC is really good but I did it one time with a child who was similar to yours--at ...

CTC or RTR?
I am wondering whether CTC or RTR would be better for my ds. He just turned 11. His strengths are details and doing with his hands and creativity. He is currently doing great with DITHOR 4/5, reads around a 7th grade level, and is finishing up Rod and Staff English 4 this spring. He gives great oral...

Re: Do you ever wish you could start over?
I understand. I really do. Is she at the young end of the grade? Summer or spring Birthday? If so you could drop her a grade, at her age, for your peace of mind. I have seen homeschoolers drop fall / winter Birthdays a grade for peace of mind and needing more time. You will declare a grade, not an a...

Dictation only for spelling?
For those of you who follow the CM / HOD method of doing only dictation for spelling how has it worked for you? Have your children been able to become good spellers using dictation alone? I would prefer to use only dictation for spelling. We have used dictation a fair amount for writing, but I alway...

Re: Realization about following up reading with writing
Thank you so much for sharing Lynn and blessing us with your realization!
It was so helpful to read of the benefits that you are finding in doing the written narrations yourself.
Thank you!

Re: Rev2Rev versus MTMM for 7th grade / age 13 boy
My concern would be trying to do the WG high school guide as an 8th grader. There is a big jump from MTMM to the WG guide. The length of day significantly increases as well as the amount of writing and the level and amount of reading. It is pretty challenging for those who have come all the way up ...

Re: CTC...what is the viewpoint of creation that is taught??
Thank you both for the info! I am looking forward to learning more about CTC, we are adding an Answers in Genesis Bible Study to our day and wanted to make sure CTC would support this teaching. We have really enjoyed HOD, looking forward to next near.... Would love any other input on CTC! I agree t...

Rev2Rev versus MTMM for 7th grade / boy
I think I just put boy in the title because parenting both boys and girls has taught me the true difference between them as they progress through the years. :) My ds12 is in 6th right now. I am thinking about this coming fall, next September, for his 7th grade year. He is one of those at the oldest ...

Re: Help with high school transfer
Is she WH on the placement chart then? If she is I would put her there. Did she do Biology this year? If not it has biology. My reasoning, if it was one of mine, is after a year of public WH I would want them to have a year of World History from a Biblical Christian perspective, which Carrie uses in...

Re: Covering geography - map work
I edited my post above. I didn't notice before that you mentioned him placing in Beyond on the chart. If he places in Beyond in the areas of age, reading, and writing then that is where you should start.
I hope that helps. The testing too really will be fine!

Re: Covering geography - map work
Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. This is the last little piece I need to figure out, mainly because I am concerned about the testing. I will take time to think over and pray about what you've said. Your comments bring me back to my initial question on this board about placement. It seem...

Thank you for the encouragement Little Women! :D I read your post last night and was so encouraged by it. Your comparison of the two curriculums was very helpful for me. I would say HOD is the most rigorous I have found as well, and the most of what I have wanted. These threads are helping me so muc...

Re: HOD High School is a HUGE help!
But I want to assure those reading that we serve an Awesome God! He enables those He has called to finish what He has called them to do. He gives the tools and the strength. His Holy Spirit is able to keep us from falling. Psalm 18 says, "He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on...
