BOX DAY!

I love getting HOD boxes... :D A big thank you to Carrie for helping me figure out what I needed for my son. I got all the British Lit books, including the Pilgrim's Progress study, the Essential in Writing, the WH guide and the IPC physics books. (I unfortunately had to get those from another compa...

Re: Carrie: Coming to TX again?

Wow. That is such a huge disappointment. :( That is the only place even halfway within driving distance to us. (We're in Missouri). :( :( Are you going to be able to add another convention anywhere else to replace it? Like maybe SHEM in Springfield???? My Father's World isn't going to be there this ...

Re: Singapore Math question

Another question....I got 3b & 4A for my son, which is a little behind. Sooooo.... I want to catch him up so he'll be on time for when he gets to Pre-Algebra. Since next fall he would "technically" be 7th grade, where would he need to be in Singapore Math? Would he be starting 6A? I'm trying to figu...

Re: Needing input on Writing & Lit for a 16 year old

Thank you, Carrie, for taking so much time to write all of that. :) Now to figure out for sure what to do. I *think* I know, but he did already do some balking when I told him, so we'll see what "dad" says. :D *I* think it all sounds great, but he "just wants to get done." We'll see.... Great words!...

Re: Needing input on Writing & Lit for a 16 year old

Wow. Thanks, Carrie! I want to make sure I'm understanding you right.... You're suggesting to only do the WH guide instead of WG? And not do the BJU book at all? I guess the reason I thought the BJU book might be good was to make sure he knew "how" to analyze a book, but maybe that is covered throug...

Re: Needing input on Writing & Lit for a 16 year old

Hi Carrie, He is an AVID reader. He loves history and historical fiction stuff. :D He's read all of the WH lit books too, except for Les Miserables because the size looks so daunting to him. lol I'll probably order your version since it's shorter. He's never done anything like annotating though. Oka...

Re: Needing input on Writing & Lit for a 16 year old

Thank you, Julie! That all sounds like a good plan. The only other thing that I wonder about is if he should do some British Lit books instead of the boy set for WG. He's read all of those and the ACE courses he's done have included some American Lit excerpts. But I wouldn't know what British Lit to...

Needing input on Writing & Lit for a 16 year old

I'm not really sure what to do here, so I thought I'd see if anyone here has any wise advice. My 16 year old son has been using ACE Paces for the last two years. He started his 9 gr. year with MFW Ancient History & Lit, but for various reasons, we stopped & went to the paces. Now he's just wanting t...

Singapore Math question

My just turned 13 year old son has finished CTC and we will start Res to Ref. after New Year's. YAY! I'm thinking about using Singapore Math because HOD does and what we've been using doesn't seem to be working anymore. We've been using ACE Paces for the last year and he was doing "okay" but then he...

Re: Where are Carrie and Julie?

They were at the Arlington. Tx. convention this past weekend. I got to meet them!!! It was such a blessing to meet and talk with both of them "in real" and look at all of the guides and books. :) And yes, keep praying for Carrie as she's still dealing some with the Vertigo.

New here!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, then bought CTC and we just finished our first week. So far, so good. :) I'm an "old" mom just now discovering HOD with my youngest child (son, age 12). I've graduated 6, almost 8 of my children who range in ages from 12 to 33. My last three, ...
